Budget speakers for near-wall positioning

Looking for speakers around the $500 mark for an office system. They would have to be placed close to the wall. Wharefdale Dentons look great and are now heavily discounted, but are rear ported. The Wharfedale Diamond 225s are cheaper but at least front ported. Anything else in that price range I should consider? I don’t know of any acoustic suspension designs in that price range.

A used pair of Guru Jr speakers will fit right in your budget. They are amazing bookshelves and allow for flexible placement to the front wall
The B&W 685 work well close to wall. A used pair would be under your budget.
REGA bookshelf standmounts.

current model : RX1
prior model : RS1 or R1

They all all designed to operate  close to a back wall and the tall have OEM wallmount brackets as accessories

The Rega R1 becomes my new budget reference speaker. In addition of its ability to get the fundamentals of music right, it adds clarity and resolution, and an ability to lay out a vivid and coherent 3-dimensional stereo image. In small room applications, what more could you want?...”

The cabinet is an internally braced MDF design that is relatively narrow, but fairly deep. It is augmented by a rear bass port, but this doesn’t seem to produce much in the way of air movement and the cabinet seems content to be placed in close proximity to rear walls if you need to do so, and Rega makes a wall bracket for it, which is usually a good sign that walls aren’t much of an issue.

The manual suggests experiment with positioning, so we begin testing with them toed in, a metre or two from surrounding walls.

However, even in our generously-sized test room, we end up with them close to the back wall and square to it. Ideal, then, for those with limited space.

Highly recommended
