Bottle Rockets- Great unknown Band- Still Exist???

I saw them last night.

They were the opening act for Lucinda Williams at the Ryman - here in Nashville.

They rocked ! Real good band - but Lucinda was truly AWESOME !

The band has gone through some personnel changes in recent years, but main man Brian Henneman is still on board writing great songs. Try out the "Brooklyn Side" and "24 Hours a Day" CDs for starters. Great band, great albums.

I believe the band is "down" to three members, with Henneman and drummer Mark Ortmann remaining from the cast that brought us "24 Hours a Day." Although departed guitarist Tom Parr wrote a handful of good songs, it is Henneman who was and still remains the main man and it is he that is responsible for the b-rockets' best songs. He is the heart and soul of the Bottle Rockets, much as John Fogerty was in CCR. If the new album, "Blue Sky," is not quite as good as the aforementioned albums, it is only a half step behind. In other words, it is a very good album and highly recommended. As far as I'm concerned, the others are essential. Henneman is one of the most underappreciated songwriters of this generation. Roots rock just isn't in vogue these days, sad to say. Right band, wrong time.

The type of Music they play is simple, staight forward and full of catchy lyrics,and hooks.

Your right about the wrong time for them.

Still, there is a whole generation of us out there that bought and supported most of the past Music sales.
Compare that to todays's pitiful groups with the over dubbed, canned lifeless offerings that account primarily for the declining Music sales.

They are opening for the Allman Brothers on some of their summer dates this tour.

Great band.  Henneman was the guitar tech for Uncle Tupelo.  I call it the unknown nephew band, with Wilco and Son Volt being the better known spin offs from the Uncle.

The first two records are flat-out great, it’s been good but spottier since. IMO one of their absolute best songs “Waiting on a Train” from 24 Hours a Day was written by Henneman’s brother (Tom, IIRC)

great band--their song "my dog" is an all-time classic
