It sounds like you have too much gain. You should be able to adjust it with your 7005.
Background noise
I have a Marantz AV 7005 pre-amp driving a Rotel RMB 1095-5 Amp. I have considerable background noise when listening at reasonably high volumes IE:-8db to 0db. It sounds like the noise of a far away football stadium. Its not noticeable at -15 db. Is the Marantz a good match for the Rotel.
