AudioQuest Robin Hood vs William Tell

Hi,

I recently auditioned the Rocket 88 vs the Robin Hood ZERO. Wow, the difference was huge! I didn’t expect that! The RH made the soundstage open up so much more, with so much clarity and transparency. The bass was so much tighter and better separation and layering compared to the R88.

I also auditioned the Water and Earth interconnects, and in my system I needed the warmth of the Water RCA to make it a more smoother, fuller and engaging sound. The Earth was so much tigher but in my system not a good match with the RH. It was much better though, with more focus, accuracy and separation but made it to clean to my ears, like it took all the warmth, life and fun out of my system. But to analytical to my taste.

I’m wondering if the William Tells will sound a bit fuller / warmer so the voices has more weight, authority and body compared to the RH? Or how can you describe the characteristics of the WT in comparison?

Did someone listened to both and can advise me?

Thanks!

Hi, I have the Robin Hood Zero's non silver.  They sound great to me   I see that they retail for $1,700 but don't sell well on the used market so get used if you want.

I got a set of  cables from Terry London and I can hear a diff between them and the AQ's  To make sure I wasn't making it up I had a friend hear both and he heard the same exact difference which was related to the highs.

Would love to hear Willaim Tell's but way out of my price range.

I am using all balanced Earth interconnects except that the TT to phono preamp is RCA. I upgraded from the AQ CV-8 to the William Tell zero full range and found this to improve pretty much every aspect of the presentation. MD took back the 6 month old CV-8 for full credit toward the upgraded cables. They did the same when I upgraded interconnects. I stopped at the WTZero because this was the inflection point in the AQ lineup, after which they transition to much costlier silver conductors.

I’m guessing that you are streaming and not listening to vinyl. My greatest improvement in sound came with power conditioning and power cables. My greatest improvement in female voice came with major DAC upgrade and phono preamp/TT/arm/ cartridge upgrade.  Currently, my streamer is most likely the only weakness in my system..but it takes $$$ to find out if this is true.
