Audible Illusion Modulus 3A CD connection

To Modulus 3A preamplifier users: how do you get the best sound from your CD player? Connecting it to the CD input or to the auxiliary input on the Modulus 3A? I've tried both but can't really decide.

I normally use the AUX input. When I switched to the TAPE input, it boosted volume significantly (have to lower the volume from 11am to 7am when switched from AUX to TAPE. Wonder if TAPE passes through a gain stage?
