Anyone remember the days before bells and whistles!

Just for the sake of history the Marantz oscilloscope was introduced in the mid 60s in the Marantz 10 tuner, one of the all time classic  audio products.

For a real lack of bells and whistles, in the 60s high end speaker cable was 14 gauge lamp cord in stead of 16 gauge.
