I've owned a 5i and 5se. The 5se is a far superior preamp. Better detail, imaging, clarity and bass. It's not quite as "cold" as the 50se, retaining some midrange warmth of the 5i. The economics of upgrading BAT products doesn't make a lot of sense though. I was lucky to sell my 5i and buy a 5se for about 1/3 the cost of a factory-upgrade.
Anyone heard the BAT5i to SE conversion?
Have had the V5i for several years and am considering an upgrade for more detail, sound stage, etc. Would appreciate comments if you have heard both or done the conversion.
Also, has anyone had the opportunity to compare the Hoveland Preamp to either the 5i or 5SE? Thanks.
