Analog output from CD player distorted

Hi folks,

I recently acquired a Chord One CD player. It worked well for a few days. However , tonight when I listened it the sound is distorted/cracked. I tested with multiple systems and discs so I can confirm it’s the One CD player that’s faulty. However, the digital output stays intact. Any ideas? Thank you!

@breguet5327  -  can you elaborate some on testing with multiple systems?

  • Is it happening with both chanels?
  • Did you physically plug the Chord into another pre-amp/integrated/receiver, etc. to test?
  • Are you using the RCA or Balanced cables?
  • Did you try different cables?
  • Prior to the distortion/cracked sound, did you unplug/plug in the Chord?
  • If using the RCA's, inspect the jacks on the Chord.  Are they damaged?  Looking like they are pulling loose?

@jeffbij

hi Jeff, I plugged it to my Classe preamp through XLR. I also tested it with another preamp using RCA. Distortion in both channels and the distortion is the same for for every replay (same type, same timing..)

Sounds like the internal DAC or the analog output stage in the Chord is fried, which sucks...

If you bought it new, then as @jasonbourne71 said,  back to the dealer.  If bought used, you will probably have to give Chord a call and see what they say about repairing.
