AMP STRAIN : Balanced vs RCA

ELECTRICIANS?

I’m wanting knowledge about choosing/buying partial silver BALANCED … over the same in RCA. Any difference s I try to further justify this purchase for my Marantz to Klipsch combo. Thanks

I’m wanting knowledge … I try to further justify this purchase…

Most established knowledge says that the metal does not make a difference.
Balanced makes a difference in terms of CMRR.

If you have a cheap balanced cable, is that sound different whatever RCA you have?

If you really want it though, it is easier to just get it…as it is difficult to justify with engineering. And many cables do not have engineering specs attached to them.

Raw cable does, but not all, and fewer specs in terms of pre-made cables.

Thanks. What is CMRR?

CMRR is “Common Mode Rejection Ratio’’, which is how balanced get noise on both conductors and remove it equally.

There is no magic, so start with $20 cables and see how they work. (IMO).

No amp strain with either. The consensus is balanced has higher CMRR but really only needed for long runs. I’m still using unbalanced but went from RCA to BNC connectors as I’ve found connectors are the weakest link

I have Navy electrician associates that can only laugh at all this cable stuff. Their comment is that the tiniest of wiring is connectors INSIDE an amp, and that it’s truly crazy to think big robustness on the EXTERIOR is any improvement.

Does not mean these given associates know much of anything about audio or how people hear, or how it all works in the minute aspects of complex interactive dynamics, shifting of loading and impedance, and so on..

If they were truly intelligent and truly capable - they’d qualify their remarks.

If they laughed, it would more properly indicate that there is 'nobody home.'

the next question might be ...is this what they truly said or did you malign them, by aggrandizing your opinion, via purposeful coloring of their orignal comments, and relating such to us?

I suppose their work is in radar and other critical systems.
They sound trustworthy to me.

So then why are your here OP?

Trollist behavior.

My amp has Heavy-duty, gold-plated, beryllium-copper bus bars making the connections in the power supply and the output stage.

@moose89 Yeah I'd go along with the Navy sparks. It's all hocus pocus, voodoo shite.

Make sure you put plenty of Vaseline on your ICs.
