Altis DAP Reference Bitstream Decoder

I just picked up an older Altis DAP "Reference" Bitstream Decoder. However I don't have a user manaul. The front panel has the following:
44.1 SPS
48.0 SPS
Sync
De-emphasis

Any feedback on this unit would be appreciated. Even better, a copy of the manual or selected pages would make you a friend for life.

Great answer. Preemphasis is the process whereby certain frequencies are boosted and others are cut, just as happens with LPs. Deemphasis then puts the playback through an inverse filter to restore the flat frequency response. In LPs the filter curve is the famous RIAA equalization curve ... I have no idea what was used for CDs, other than it's not widely used any more.
