Advice on wireless system

A new child requires that I transition my modest audiophile system to a more usable and available version.

My new system will be a home server with my digital music, combined with a remote system.

Here's my question:Would you recommend that I buy wifi speakers with an embedded amp (Eg Audio Engine), or just use my existing system, and get some sort of wifi link that connects the server/router to a wifi receiver that serves as a source for my preamp?

If the second, any specific hardware recommendations would be very welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Charles

We recently moved into a new house and I ditched the receiver/cd player/traditional pair of speakers (and the equipment cabinet) for a pair of KEF LS50 Wireless speakers.  They connect to our wifi and show up as a "speaker" on my wife's iPad, when she's streaming from Spotify, and shows up as an endpoint when I'm streaming from my Roon Nucleus Plus server.

KEF recently introduced a new version of the LS50 Wireless speakers, which should be even better.

If these speakers were my "primary" system, I'd probably add a subwoofer, but other than that, they sound really good!
