Accuphase A65 vs ...

Hello everyone,

I have the opportunity to purchase Accuphase A65 2nd hand and I have some questions :

1. How does it compare to other models such as the A70,A75 or maybe the older ones like the A50v that have nothing but great reviews,
Unfortunately not the case with the A65.

?

2. For those who use the amp how does it handles the base, and what’s your general impression?

3.is it a fast sounding amplifier?

4. should I buy the e650 (same price as the A65) which is the newer version integrated amplifier, will it outperform the A65?

Please stay on topic and I only want Accuphase
not other brands.

My speakers are Wilson WP7.

thank you:)

I’ve had my A65 for over 5 years now and tested it against the E 600 and quickly picked the a65 due to soundstage, effortlessness, tone. The extra power over the e600 was clear.
I have no problem with bass and speed but after 5 years and power cables , speaker placement , equipment stands it has improved in these areas.
The 60 watts of class a is under rated and doubles down to a one ohm load. I would think it should drive your wp 7 no problem but would definitely recommend listening to either the a65 or e650 b4 you buy. I haven’t seen many if any Wilson / Accuphase pairing.
thanks for the reply Tecknik,
they actually pair well together.

and tanks jetter I saw that and hope it’s only a one man opinion.

+1, tecknik.

I have not heard A65 but I know Wilson’s loves power. Not knowing your music genre, A65 would probably give you more grunt in bass. I own E-650 and it’s more than capable of driving any speaker, mine just happened to be 96db efficiency. I absolutely love the synergy, it’s slightly warm gorgeous sound with my Canterbury’s. I don’t think Accuphase amp is fast sounding, to my ears they have a slightly laid back (relaxed) sound.

Good luck!
