A lesson in Exotica

Learned something today about vinyl.

3 years ago I lucked out at an estate sale. I bought 12 feet of albums for $75. Mostly 50’s and 60’s, stuff I wasn’t familiar with. Included was a nice collection of Command and Phase 4 percussion LP’s. I think they were the leading companies as far as fidelity (correct me if I’m wrong).

Being an ex-drummer I got into the percussion big time. Then I started listening to the wide collection of Exotica . Great stuff with some killer album cover art.

Today I learned a new lesson. Don’t put off listening to those filthy, scratched up records! There’s a reason they’re well played. I’ve only just started on the ones in rough shape, but here are my fav’s so far.

London Phase 4. ‘Exotic Percussion’. (Green cover with island girl) John Keating orchestra
London Phase 4. ‘Temptation’. (orange cover with woman) Stanley Black and his orchestra
Liberty ‘Exotica Suite’ by Martin Denny & Si Zentner
