8 Reasons why you should buy an $50,000 DAC

Penned some thoughts on my experience of why I invested in an Uber expensive DAC and how it turned out (more to come) , https://audiofool.substack.com/p/8-reasons-why-you-should-buy-a-50000

Hopefully you find it entertaining.

Brickbats, bouquets and anything in between most welcome.

What is the % of Americans who can afford this  "nevermind the money" i will buy the best system in the world , a 50,000 bucks dac included , and a 6 figure room treatment ?

What is the % of people in the world reading this as  the "solution" to audio,( 6 figure sound system+6 figure room treatment)  will appreciate this as a Solution or instead will judge this  complete unconsciousness about concrete situation of most people in the world about audio ?

It is incredible how privileged people spoke :

$50k for something is nothing in the scheme of things. I have a new car that far surpasses $50k and it’s worth every cent. I also have what I want in an audio system that cost a lot.

Congratulation" for your system and especially your car ,  it was very informative ...

My system is 1000 bucks and my room acoustical control is homemade ...

I can teach you how to do one at no cost...

Not so good as yours but for the price you will be surprised ...

If the DAC natively handles DSD in at least 5 channels simultaneously, maybe.  Otherwise if you are stuck at 2 channels or PCM, forget it ... there are far better ways to splash your digital cash

@onhwy61 It was an investment in pleasure (not returns)

lol @larryi

@mahgister I completely agree with you. I am writing my next to next post about that experience. My friend has a professional recording studio, a room on which more $100000 was spent, his pro audio ADC/DAC costs 700$, but never in my life even if I spend a million on audio gear would I equal the sound he gets in his studio.

Looking back, my DAC purchase made very little sense, it's retail price (I did not pay retail) was more than the rest of my system, which was at the time all Nagra gear (purchased used).

If 50K$ was nothing for me, I wouldn't have written this post making fun of myself and my silly audiophile decisions. But I agree the way high end prices are rocketing they make you feel like $50K is nothing.

Live and learn. And money is a tool - just like any tool it can be misused.

I enjoy music and with home much electronics have advanced some folks view paying any more than a phone and service plan is too much money on music.

Really funny!  Spending this much on audio gear to chase the illusion of perfect sound is something we should all, at the least, view with skepticism.

spending $50K + for a DAC is buying a Veblen good, IMHO.

p.s. I have spent plenty, but not is this range, and am happy with the system and am done.
