$15,000 Floor-Standing Speaker Selection and Advice

As per title, have a budget of $15k to spend on new floor-standing speakers.

Was wondering your opinion and experiences within this price category if you done so before?

There are a tone of brands out there but I'd peoples first hand opinion and experience in the matter.

Examples are:
Perlisten Audio S7T
AudioSolution Figaro XL
Sonus Faber Sonetto VIII G2
Buchardt A700

What are some suggestions on good speakers to choose from at that price point?

Room is large 7m x 8m, so would need large speakers I assume.

Thanks for looking.

If one had a budget of $15K, I'm thinking that even with shipping, you could find a nice pair of used speakers in the states.

How much would it cost to ship something like this from the west coast (CA)?  You may find it cheaper than buying new and these would never lose value.

One-off, furniture grade (solid oak), tri-amped AudioTechnica Super Big Reds with a one-off electronic crossover and one-off passive eq units for the horns.

Cabinets are 15.5 cu ft exterior volume.

"one-off" = only set made

IIRC, there were only 70-something Super Big Reds made and most were black utility cabinets for studio soffet-mounting.  I have only seen pics of one other furniture-grade set that don't look as nice.

Also, my set, purchased from a recording studio, are tri-amped with a one-off custom made electronic crossover and one-off passive equalization units for the horn drivers.  ALL other sets I've seen use passive Mastering Labs crossovers.

Recognizing that most of the music that I listen to from the 60s, 70s, and 80s was mixed down using Altec 604s or JBL 4333s, I can only surmise that this is about as close to what was heard in the recording session as one will get and the way it was intended to be heard, and the way I remember it.

Moreover, I recorded some synthesizer tracks at Momma Jo’s studio in 1975, and they had soffet-mounted Super Big Reds.  Ambrosia had just finished recording their album and the Baldwin electric harpsichord used on the album was still there at the studio.  As I said, the way I remember it.

This was recorded at Momma Jo's and mixed down on Super Big Reds.  Alan Parsons did the mix.  BTW, even after all these years, these guys still play twice a year at the Coach house in San Juan Capistrano.

Mama Jo’s - Recording studio in North Hollywood, California.

HISTORY

Dave’s Room was was originally built in 1970, a time when recording studios were invested with beautifully balanced acoustics and serious aesthetics. Endowed with massive oak beams and copious velvet wall coverings, Mama Jo’s was one of the most beautiful. Famed acoustician Vincent Van Haaff was specifically hired to design the control room and it soon acquired a reputation for being a “tweaker” room; a place where artists, producers, and engineers who were really particular about sound quality wanted to work.

Albums by artists such as Richie Furay, Keith Green, Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, Amy Grant, Sam Phillips, Ambrosia, Ziggy Marley, George Michael, Love Song, Michael W. Smith, Margaret Becker, BeBe and CeCe Winans, Andraé Crouch and the Disciples, Blink 182, Chuck Girard, The Way, Smokey Robinson, Randy Stonehill, Sweet Comfort Band and Daniel Amos were recorded there.

Producers and engineers including Alan Parsons, Jack Joseph Puig, Jonathan David Brown, Al Perkins, T Bone Burnett, Andy Johns, Brown Bannister, Burt Bacharach and Larry Norman were clients during this period.

After falling into disrepair in the mid-2000s, in 2006 it was completely refurbished by David Bianco. Bianco restored the recording space with an eye toward maintaining the incredible period feel, and acoustics. The control room, originally designed by Vincent Van Haaff, was updated technically. The main speakers were re-built using matching components from another Van Haaff-designed room at Larrabee Sound Studios, and was re-named Dave’s Room.

I’m not expecting you to do anything.

I simply asked how much it would cost to ship BIG speakers (providing an example) as opposed to buying new.  IIRC, you stated the desire for BIG coax speakers and I merely supplied an example which you and others then asked about.

You would be very lucky to find a nice pair of Super Big Reds even if you could afford the shipping, which for all I know could be more than the speakers themselves.

Sorry, my mistake.  Was the other thread where the gent was looking for holographic speakers for <$7K.
