Any opinions on Morrow USB cable and SP5 Speaker cables?
No experience with the USB but I use the SP-7 speaker cable and have been pleased with it.
Best cheap integrated amp
Used Rega Brio-R can be had for about $500 or less.  Certainly not the last word in resolution or finesse, but a lot of fun at that price point.
High Fidelity MC.05 Helix plus just
I recently got one of the Helix Plus units on a lark, after Rick listed some discounted units here on Audiogon.I have to confess: I pretty much did not believe that this device could have much of a meaningful effect. I won’t go as far as saying I ...
Anyone with tinnitus or hearing loss who is into "high-end" audio?
I’ve had tinnitus, worse in my left ear, for the past two years. Mine sounds like a constant hiss; a sink on full blast. It’s not super loud but as others have mentioned, stress, caffeine, lack of sleep all make it worse. I notice that I listen to...
Does anyone collect something else other than music.
I collect art (mostly minimalist and conceptual prints, editions and multiples; some paintings and works on paper by emerging and mid-career artists; a bit of sculpture and very little photography).I also have a collection of ancient Greek and Rom...
Really need help choosing audio streamer !!!
I use a Pro-Ject Stream Box S2 Ultra and have been pleased with it.
Music streamer device vs laptop/phone?
After years of using a MacBook Pro to stream Tidal to my DAC and integrated, I recently switched to a Pro-Ject Stream Box Ultra 2.The convenience of not having to dedicate or continually set up a laptop in my system is great, but for what it's wor...
Subwoofer high-level connection question
Thanks all, especially @millercarbon for the detailed and useful explanation!  I had read that the sub has a 100,000 Ohm input impedance and that the amp doesn't really "see" it.  Your explanation is really helpful in understanding this phenomenon...
Basic Tidal streamer to USB DAC
Thank you for your detailed response, nekoaudio! Very helpful. The latter approach (a streamer that natively supports Tidal) is the way I was thinking I would go, I just haven’t found many streamers that seem to fit my rather basic needs without g...
Border Patrol DAC - difference in models
For anyone else who might be looking for an answer to this question, here is Gary Dews' reply:"SE DAC's had Uptone Audio polypropylene film and foil output capacitors. New SE-i DAC's have Jupiter cryo beeswax capacitors. The Jupiter gives a richer...
High efficiency monitors for SET amp in small room - budget 2.5k
Update: I ended up with a pair of customshop Omega Super Alcino Monitors XRS.  What they do well, I have never heard another speaker do better.  It's a trade off, of course, as the single driver design does have limitations of its own.  I won't go...
High efficiency monitors for SET amp in small room - budget 2.5k
jazzman, thanks for your observations.  I have been very keen on trying the Spatials or another open baffle design in my tiny room, but I have been a bit wary since I've read completely contradictory accounts of how OB speakers perform in tight sp...
High efficiency monitors for SET amp in small room - budget 2.5k
Riaa, my room is smaller than yours (2nd bedroom in a NYC apartment.)  it’s probably 11 x 9 and I am listening in the nearfield.   Don't get me wrong, the SHL5+ sounds gorgeous, even in these less than ideal conditions.  I do not blame the speaker...
High efficiency monitors for SET amp in small room - budget 2.5k
David_ten, thanks for your comment. What you’re suggesting is exactly what I’m curious about with respect to a higher efficiency speaker. What I’m looking for is something that lets me inside the music even at lower volumes. The Harbeths are very ...
High efficiency monitors for SET amp in small room - budget 2.5k
yogiboy - you’re essentially correct, when I take measurements while listening I average between 70-80db, with transient peaks around 90db at most.  In fact, My current speakers are Harbeth SHL5+, which sound quite beautiful.  But they are, in fac...
