That "tube sound" and power ratings
"...So won't a high wattage tube amp have less of the special tube sound "tubies" like at their preferred listening volume?"Probably... A lot of what people like is the compression and fatness that occurs when an underpowered tube amp is over driv...
How do Ohm Walsh speakers compare to Maggies?
Frazeur1 summed the MIcroTalls up pretty well. I actually went from MWT's to a pair of Harbeths, and in my room I'm much happier. But that's in my listening room. I still always recommend Ohms - one thing to add, as easy as the MWT's are to place,...
Once again, impressed by NAD
Over the years, NAD has done great things... But the difference between affordable and hi-end amplifiers is much smaller than most people think...
Van Alstine Synergy integrated: How does it rank ?
The AVA looks like a good, solid integrated. Not sure how it ranks with the others you mentioned - there is a recent review: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0414/audio_by_van_alstine_synergy.htm
Bryston 28B-SST2 or Karan Acoustics KA-S 600 ?
In the hundreds of times that I've heard Bryston amplifiers in recording studios - I've never thought of them as forward, or "un musical". It's true, Bryston claims that their amps all sound the same - they just get more powerful, if you spend mor...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
IMO more people should listen to men like John Strohbeen, and Alan Shaw (Harbeth). If there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's all about getting the testing method down, then real comparisons can be made.We hear about level matching all...
Got the upgrade bug
I'm a big Harbeth fan - I have a pair of the P3ESR's - highly recommended!
Got the upgrade bug
Pretty cool system you have - my 2 cents - I focus on speakers and adequate power. Most of my budget goes to the speakers and I always like to have lots of power on tap. That's kind of it, I don't go nuts on DACs and cables.Vinyl is great - lots o...
new speakers for studio? Salon 2, Wilson....
One of my favorite monitors are the PMC AML2's.I've heard them in a couple different rooms - I was just editing on a 5.1 set up - I love the detail and refinement - easy to listen to all day long - quasi-full range too...http://www.pmc-speakers.co...
Harbeth 30.1, odd USA pricing?
Thanks for that post Vinnie...I'm wondering how much of the cost increase is a result of the wiring upgrade - it makes zero difference in the sound...
i hear sim audio amps are unreliable
I have a used Simaudio i-3 integrated. It has to be at least 10 years old, and I've had it for the last 2 years. Interesting how people hear things differently - to me the Sim sounds the way I'd expect a class A/AB amp to sound - smooth and refine...
Upgrade question - speakers or integrated?
+1 with the Harbeth 7s...Keep the amplifier...I got off the merry-go-round with a pair of Harbeths...
Accurate human voice reproduction
Also the Harbeth P3ESR...
Harbeth P3ESR - What electronics are you using?
I started with a Cyrus 8vs2 and replaced it with (an older) SimAudio Moon i-3.I wouldn't change from the i-3...Mine are in Black Ash..
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
The room reflections are a balancing act... I remember when I was renovating my place and had to move a bunch of furniture into my listening room - it actually made the room too dead. I thought it would improve the sound,.. At one point, I had mov...
