Looking for an acoustic guitar recording..
A big-time second to Abucktwoeighty's recommendation of Kelly Joe Phelp's Lead Me On.
Please recommend a good recording oMozart Requiem
Jordi Savall, La Capella Reial de Catalunya, Le Concert des Nations -- breathtaking.
Clarinet concertos anyone?
Crusell's clarinet concertos are a lot of fun. Also, try out Beethoven's -- yes, of course, he didn't write one, but Mikhail Pletnev has arranged Beethoven's Violin Concerto for clarinet and conducts it on DG with Michael Collins as the soloist --...

CAL Alpha DAC: Stock vs. 24/96 upgrade
There are three CAL DACs in our house right now. A beloved Alpha (non-24/96)in the bedroom system; a Sigma II (non-24/96) in the TV room, doing great things hanging off a DVD player; and a 24/96 Sigma II that is in a cupboard gathering dust. The r...
Know who played this Colman Hawkins date?
This may be your answer, according to a seemly knowledgable reviewer on Amazon.com: >Volume two of "The Hawk Swings" was recorded on the UNITED RECORDS label (#7707) I have both volumes on vinyl. The album cover photo's look as if they were tak...
A great SS integrated with a good phono stage?
A late -80's vintage Tandberg 3012a. Lovely integrated, warm tube-like sound, and an excellent phone stage from when such things were required.

Take a sharp edged knife and pry them out.
Suggestions for Classical Piano "works of merit"
I second it, Wilhelm Kempff is amazing. Try his solo Bach recordings on DG. Some of the finest performances/recordings I've ever heard. His playing can stop time.
Under Appreciated Jazz Piano Players
Jaki Byard, played in the shadow of Mingus for years.
Cheap external DAC for DVD player
I use an old CAL Sigma II DAC for improving DVD sound through a two-channel system when watching movies. Sounds great.
Cal Audio Alpha-Delta, Anyone Stack Them?
Stacking works fine for me. I have Herbies footers under the Delta and between the Delta and Alpha units, just to help sop up any nasty vibes.
BACH Cello Suites - CD only
For pure poetry, try Pierre Fournier on DG. The 1961 sound is quite good and the performance is nuanced, poised and all together beautiful.

CD Buying Guide???
There's a Penguin Guide to Jazz available on Amazon. I've never looked at one though, so can't tell you whether it discusses recording quality as well a content.
