New remastering of Steely Dan's Katy Lied review by Fremer
I think I'm going out to the two local record stores for some browsing. Thanks for the link to the expletive track, because it's fun to hear the enthusiasm. I have most of the SD catalog. The first time I visited my wife at her house over 20 years...
Impressions & comparisons of Belles 150a Reference Power Amplifier Ver 2
This model Belles amp (150a Ref V2) has been with me for about a year, and was reportedly new old stock from a former dealer, etc. I've got it paired with Dynaudio DM 2/6 in the basement system, but it's performed admirably with 2ceSigs in the mai...
This Might Not Exist, Any reasonably priced, smaller speakers with 100db Sensitivity?
Omegas come close to the specs for the OP. There's a variety of models. One of them might fit the needs.
Review on Linear Tube Audio Aero DAC
For the fun of it, I've just taken delivery of the Ray's Reserve 6SN7s, from LTA. I'm curious, because thus far I've preferred the 12SN7 stockers to two other pairs of 6SN7 tubes. I'm going to fire up that system shortly. I've been listening upsta...
Cary SLP 98 vs Benchmark LA4
I think that the SLP-98 is a work of art. How long has it been in production? I keep it as a regular search item, because I enjoy seeing them in their different iterations. I've never heard one, but maybe one day. I tried a bit of Dennis Had's Ins...
Help With New Preamp Decision
I'm interested in reading your opinions of the sound of the system as it comes together and breaks in. I've been thinking about a similar list of preamplifiers for later this year, so this is an interesting thread. I've enjoyed Aric's Unlimited II...
What is the first thing you do when you unwrap a new vinyl record?
At first unwrap and removal from the sleeve, I hold it to the light to check for warping. I give it a sniff to become familiar. I find side one, and place it onto the spindle facing up. I place the centerweight over the spindle. Then I verify that...
The new Denon turntable, DP-3000NE. Any owners out there????
I'm enjoying mine. I was looking for a new turntable with an interchangeable headshell and a well constructed dustcover. I've enjoyed the look of vintage Denons. I didn't set it up immediately until space was available, as it is somewhat large and...
Phono preamp for a Denon 103R cartridge.
There's a set of phono stage reviews at Twittering Machines. Michael Lavorgna at some point in the round up states he liked the Aurorasound Vida Prima and the EAR Phono Classic with the Denon DL103. What appeals to me is that he also used a 2M Bla...
Phono preamp for a Denon 103R cartridge.
lewm, thank you. vthokie83, the Aric Super Phono is MM. I do like his pieces. But with an SUT I'm up around $3k, and I just don't have the space at the moment.
Phono preamp for a Denon 103R cartridge.
I appreciate the Sutherland recommendations. KC would allow switching among all cartridges, but the TZ is specific to low output MC. KCs seem readily available. Lounge seems to have op-amps, and I might prefer discrete. theflattire, I have an MP7...
Phono preamp for a Denon 103R cartridge.
Michael Fremer is a tough read for me. He's detailed about his combinations and has reviewed a good amount of gear. The inexpensive gear falls short of the mark of the hyper expensive gear, but it's closer than we think, seems to be a consistent t...
Turntable suggestions for a newbie
Of the three turntables in the initial post, two are modern art without a practical dustcover. I've tried that route, and have found that I prefer to have a dustcover from the factory as a part of the table itself. There are large plexiglass cove...
My stereo
Congratulations on a setup that you enjoy! It's great to get to a place where powering up the system and playing music gives the pleasure, without any nagging daydream of "what if " I made a change over here... On the other hand, I'm a happy tour...
Rel T/7x sub sound improvement but…
The specs on the 805 D4 state a frequency response that might be -3 dB at 42, possibly dropping further on the way to 34. What you get in-room will probably vary a bit, depending upon room factors such as size or dampening with rugs and furniture....
