Best monoblock tube amp with Vandersteen 5A
I'll agree to that SW - the mere fact that he'll apparently jump on the phone with callers who aren't customers at the drop of a pin (I never asked to speak with him, I just had a question) puts RV ahead of quite a few in this industry...
Power Cords Snake Oil ??
What can I say Corona? My mind has a mind of its own...

Hmmm...the one time I spoke with RV by phone, I would say that "gruff guy" was more like it...

C4B: Could it be the singer's bad British teeth?
Power Cords Snake Oil ??
Corona: I have to admit, that is a brilliant stratagem which I'm sure all cable manufacturers would like to institute if they could: Market speakers that are promised to sound correct only with their own wire goods, regardless of what electronics ...
Power Cords Snake Oil ??
Corona: For a guy who thinks he knows what he's talking about, you certainly have a very persnickety speaker there...

Oh good grief - Yes Corona, you're Orville and Wilbur reincarnate...Well, Happy New Year everybody, I'm off to floss my teeth with String Theory and then it's nitey-nite time, when I curl up underneath my appealingly familiar security blanket and ...

I auditioned the ASL (v.1) vs. the X-Cans (v.2) with my HD600's, and bought the MF unit for its superior sound (the ASL, much as I liked it, just sounded too 'tubey' [or 'transformer-y' - I believe it was transformer-coupled] in an obviously color...
I'm scratching my records
DD is right - you're tacking force is probably set too low, but SDC is also right, because correct anti-skating force is determined by tracking force (more = more), and with a VPI 'arm, chances are you're employing very little to no anti-skating f...
Linestage v. Preamp
All preamps once had built-in phonostages, in the days before high-output, non-EQ-needing CD players became the most popular source. Today such preamps, capable of directly handling the signal from a phono cartridge, are called 'full-function', wh...
The Darkness: A guilty pleasure...
Why guilty? I've only heard two tunes - both made me think more of glam than of boogie, but the singer reminds me of Russ Mael from Sparks. Nice flash guitar heroics, nicely produced. Not going to change my life or anything, but a welcome diversio...
Looking to get TT
RR, if you're still around, you might like to know that I found the first Captain Beyond LP cheap at an estate sale (no 3D cover, 4" spine split, but clean vinyl) and picked it up just so I could come back here and tell you how much I didn't care ...
Review: Classe Audio 70 Amplifier
Tnadu: You asked, "But come on, comparing the Seventy to mass-market receivers?"What I said above: "...I'm guessing it would still beat many mass-market receivers around the price it goes for used in terms of fulless and body." Well, so would a Kr...
