What is the standard for judging a systems sound?
Nate: Actually, there were just two songs from those sessions, which were issued on two of the annual compilation disks that get released for the Xmas holidays by a local charity against hunger to raise funds. All the tracks are donated by the ban...
Is vinyl dead ?
Sean: If one is to judge by catalogs, take a look at the latest from Music Direct...Analog front, center, and out the yin-yang :-)
What is the standard for judging a systems sound?
I know that neither amp, nor my system generally, could exactly capture the sound I worked to achieve in the recording and mixing of the sessions. For one thing, the control room at the studio we used was purpose-built with angled walls and ceilin...
VTL Tetrode/Triode
I own MB-185's, powering Thiel CS 2.2's (not the demanding load that some associate with the brand - 8" woofer and fairly flat 4 ohm impedance with well-behaved phase angle, average sensitivity of about 87dB).My general observations about triode v...
What is the standard for judging a systems sound?
What a priceless 24 hours. This afernoon, I did some critical comparisons of the DNA-125 vs. my VTL's after leaving the SS amp playing all night to get it really warmed up. Then, taking a cue from Nrchy, I played a CD-R of some stuff that I record...
Do You Remember Your First CD Player?
Dopogue: Right you are! I didn't even remember that my first player was branded Magnavox, not Philips. And I had just read Nrchy's post! Guess I had some issues (at the time, and apparently still) thinking that my bitchin' mid-fi system had someth...
What is the standard for judging a systems sound?
I often think that one of the reasons I find it so easy to enjoy the music on my crappy, stock car radio is precisely *because* it eschews literal fidelity, and I know that it does, so it frees me up not to worry about such concerns and just groov...
Salamander Cabinet Resonance Problem. Help
I have a Twin 40 and purposefully ordered it without any doors, sides, or back panels, which I knew would just resonate. Next I am replacing all the corner shelf supports with the heavy-duty bracket-type supports to strengthen the overall structur...
Do You Remember Your First CD Player?
I had the same Philips CBD-650 as Nrchy (circa '86 maybe?). Couldn't tell you much about how it sounded, as I wasn't an audiophile back then and didn't have a particularly revealing system. I do remember my brother getting an inexpensive Panasonic...
What is the standard for judging a systems sound?
Of course. It's like asking to be able to depend on some sort of standard for how good food tastes, or which people are the most physically attractive. The only difference is that in audio, we are presumably trying to *recreate something* (more so...
McCormack DNA-125/225 Upgrades
Posters here may get an ironic smile out of my last post on this other thread (1/30/04).
What is the standard for judging a systems sound?
To partially answer both Nrchy's and Onhwy61's questions (How long has your system been the same? What valid conclusions can we draw from the observations of others?) as they regard myself, here's some news FWIW:Yesterday I bought an amplifier fro...
What is the standard for judging a systems sound?
Pubul57, despite the rhetoric about the standard being unamplified live acoustic music - a standard that (within limits) is still useful and admirable, and which I understand aspiring to - I think that in actuality, most gear is essentially review...
Theta Dreams
...Can the audiophiles who've read the ads/reviews and bought the latest players? ;^)Anyway, if other manufacturers can't be cornered into providing the explicit definition for such a distinction, then kudos to Theta for having the balls to risk b...
Soundstage there/gone/moves - poor current ????
As Nighthawk suggests, I would investigate whether an internal connection in one of your loudspeakers, maybe at a driver or in a crossover, is somehow intermittant.
