Getting mold or mildew off old record jackets
My own opinions about the nature of mildew: It's my experience that once the record and jacket are removed from the cellar they likely came from, and stored thenceforth in a normally climate controlled environment, mildew will not grow anymore or ...
Really dumb question about Atmasphere amps
If a monoblock is gonna live down behind the speakers, wouldn't it make the most sense to have the IC input toward the rear, and the speaker outputs toward the front? Doesn't doing it the other way 'round defeat the advantage of shorter internal w...
Seeking advice from the SL1200 fan s
SL1200's have easily adjustable and repeatable VTA control. Overhead is set at the headshell, so cart swaps are fairly simple. BTW, in theory, fluid damping should improve transient response in particular, by keeping steep amplitude impulses from ...
VISATON's MONITOR 890 MK11:world's "best" monitor?
All right, the food in Naw'lins is something we can definitely agree on! (Yes, I have actually been there and eaten it.) Enjoy looking at your new drivers!
New Tube Break-In
Just a note to clarify that running a tube without a signal present is not the same thing as a standby mode. The full bias amount is still applied to the tube, not just the heater warm up.
VISATON's MONITOR 890 MK11:world's "best" monitor?
Yep, "go figure", that's about all I can make of this, Tweek. TEHO. Bishopwill, my girlfriend's best girlfriend recently got remarried to a guy named Bishop, and had her first child - a boy they named Wil (one "l"). I'll let you know when he start...
New Tube Break-In
Of course most gear does not have filaments that are constant-on (same as "standby"). Many new tubes will "flash" when first powered up, and still go on to have a long and useful life.
Day amp arrives Cashier check returned
Fatparrot, the "bank draft" with the names typed in by the bank that you are describing is a "cashier's check", as far as I know. All of this actually makes me wonder if money orders aren't really more secure. You can't claim you "lost" a money or...
what is diff: Class "A", "A/B", and "B"
No, if I were a betting man, I wouldn't put money on any of these answers. Why do I get the feeling class of operation is being confused with single-ended vs. push-pull? Where is any mention of bias level? What is this stuff about "adjusting power...
New Tube Break-In
Your preamp tubes won't be working any more or less hard whether you "play them loud and fast right away" or not - a preamp's gain is fixed, and the volume attenuation potentiometer comes after the tubes in the circuit, so volume of playback is no...
SS amps. Why so much power?
Good God, Sean, what must your hearing loss be like these days?
Day amp arrives Cashier check returned
I'm betting with Myraj. As far as I know, the drawer cannot stop a true cashier's check, short of actually returning the physical check with receipt into the account, and the funds cannot be diverted after the check is made. Please let us know if ...
VISATON's MONITOR 890 MK11:world's "best" monitor?
Tweek, I guess no one else is coming to this dinner, but tell me: When you write about food, have you actually eaten it, or just eyeballed a picture of it on a computer screen?
Getting mold or mildew off old record jackets
Who, me? A couple of BTW's: Most of what I talked about concerns records from the early 70's, 60's and 50's (thin-jacketed 80's sleeves, for instance, tend to be colorfast and glossy all over; 40's jackets nowhere). For tape and label adhesive res...
Getting mold or mildew off old record jackets
There are different sorts of papers used to cover the cardboard on old jackets, and the same goes for inks. This means that even with experience gained the hard way, trying to clean up old jackets to valuable records is always going to be a dicey ...
