Alex Chilton RIP
Back on topic, I'll still take Alex, even solo (in fact, especially solo!) over all that later egghead non-rock he's alleged to be somehow responsible for...and that goes for the Posies too. (Sorry AC but it had to be said. By me at least.) Nice g...

E: Dunno about "Expecting..." as fave NY period for me, but with BS, maybe so -- certainly the most distinctive (ignoring the production on "Broken Arrow"). "I Am A Child" on that last LP ain't too shabby either however...

Alex Chilton RIP
LJ -- Agree about Chris Bell, and I do dig some of AC's solo stuff including "Like Flies On Sherbet" and "Bach's Bottom". Not for everybody I suppose, but if you can get with inspired shambling then there's nothing quite like it (most who shamble ...
Alex Chilton RIP
Tfk: Of his era maybe, but only because of something that's always struck me as kind of ironic, since Chilton did gain a degree of early fame as singer of the Box Tops' big hits, before doing the more obscure work with Big Star that wound up havin...
recommendations for tube dampers???
Hi Kats, not saying that tubes are never worth it or that SS sounds tube-like, just that to my ear the flaws I often perceived which made much SS a musical compromise, seem to have been proven largely solvable by this point. (And I know one leadin...
recommendations for tube dampers???
I think you're right BW, I should've put an exclamation point or two after the phrase "eight years ago"!! But I got posted-out on audio a while back and have mostly sworn it off since. However it's nice to get a welcome wagon rather than flamed fo...
recommendations for tube dampers???
"...a little bit of microphony can be a good thing, and is probably one of the reasons we all like tubes"Re-reading my post from eight years ago in light of the above-referenced comment, I feel compelled to say that for precisely that reason, amon...

...My little screed about Buddy Holly supposedly being the originator of what became, with the British Invasion, the prototypical 2-guitar/bass/drums rock group lineup, looks a mite incomplete without acknowledging that as is well known, the Beatl...
