Matching Gear matter to you?
I’m sure I’m in the minority here, but when I see matching gear, I feel the person is uncreative and basically uninteresting. To me that is the opposite of what this hobby is about. Which is experimentation. But of course that’s just me and all yo...
Best place to sell an amp.
Well I understand how tough you folks are. :() But the fact of the matter is I 1.prefer people pick up stuff as I hate boxing it up and shipping it, especially, shipping tube amps and turntables worries me. 2. I find it hard to be dismissive of fo...
Best place to sell an amp.
Thanks everyone for your comments. Maybe with stereo stuff it's different but I tried to sell some furniture on Craigslist and the there were hordes of scammers with all sorts of stores that must have been so busy because the same ones wrote me on...
Original Blue Notes vs Reissues
In the original vinyl era, stampers would make 15,000 copies of a record. These days they rarely make more then 3000. I run a record label that used to go through Warner’s, I remember being in the lowest floor of the building and seeing someone wo...
looking for a tube preamps that doesn't sound like SS
Is there such a thing as a 300b preamp? I thought that was only an amp tube?
I'm putting to rest worrying about sibilance
Ill try again. Sibilance is an issue in making records. Something I’ve been doing as a day job for the last 40 years. So though we try to ameliorate it in mastering, but like most things, it’s a trade off. It is more of a problem as the grooves ge...

I keep trying to post here but my phone writings don’t seem to get through. Except this one:()
Distortions that the human ear likes. Are there any ?
Damn I need to edit that. Is there a way to do that?
Distortions that the human ear likes. Are there any ?
Yeah I think your missingbthe point here. And that’s because there is an assumption that distortion is bad. The fact is, it is the way you use it that makes a record or I should say the music in a record found the way it sounds. I was producing an...
Turntable hum
Oh and the hum does not change in relation to the tone arm.
Turntable hum
Thanks so much everyone for your thoughts!  I will check these out tomorrow when I’m at work as I brought this turntable in to work to replace a Thorens 135 that stopped working.  It is going through the phono input of an Ampex integrated amp into...
Turntable hum
I wouldn’t have thought of that one! But no, it is a stereo cart, Denon 103.
Turntable hum
Yes Miller, good thought but everything is.
Turntable hum
It does have some hum with the motor on, louder when ground is connected. I have not checked what the ground wire hum situation is with the motor off. It is a Gates CB 77 otherwise wonderful.
Ugrade-itis - is there a cure?
It’s a hobby. There is no perfect system. I find that new stuff makes my records sound new again. And really I have audio stuff to listen to music, so if new stuff reinvigorates music I enjoy, it’s a huge win. The new stuff is not necessarily bett...
