Preamp recomendation
Mitch2/ghoeperWhen you say that the gfp750 is bright, I take it that you were using it active. If so, that's why I recommend a passive unit. As for the dull sound running it passive, that's not always the case. The better the component, the better...
Advice re: Entry level CD Player
I would try to find a used Rotel 1072. I had one for a few years. It's the best price to sound quality player I have come across. I replaced it with an Arcam 33 that I good deal on. The Arcam is better but if I had to pay full price, I would have ...
Rega or Marantz??
Creek if you can afford it. Rega if not.
Preamp recomendation
The GFP750 would be a very good choice. I'm pretty sure it has no tone controls. Also, if I remember correctly, it has an active line stage as well. You can switch back and fourth between active and passive. I would check, though, as I am not 100%...
Preamp recomendation
GhoeperThe lower the voltage, the harder it is to make something that sounds good. In an audio system there are several power amps besides the amp you use to drive your speakers. For example, a CD player needs to send the signal to a preamp. Insid...
Meridian 808.3 to replace Esoteric X-03 SE?
I wouldn't go with the Meridian. I had a 508.24 and an 800. They just don't come alive with music. I would look at the Ayre universal player and the Cary 206 CD/SACD player. Both are extremely good and can compete with anything out there but they ...
Preamp recomendation
I would do this a little different than the way you are going. Since you can't get a good active preamp anywhere near $1000, I would go passive. It will eliminate the problems you run into with a cheap active. You can find one well within your bud...
Shouldn't done that...
Ayre would be my first choice. You can probably get one used for under $1500.
Which Would You Choose?
Why Marantz for all 3 choices? I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with them but there is other equipment in that price range that is just as good and maybe better.
Is good customer service about dead?
I would look at something from Vandersteen. They sound incredible and if you are having any problems, they will work with your dealer and make sure you get the best possible results. Also, Vandersteen is very picky about who they let sell their sp...
need advice with my amps
I would definitely keep the Theta for your 2 channe setupl. It's one of the best solid state amps made. Very underrated product. Also, you can use 4 of the channels and do a vertical biamp. When I was looking for an amp to drive my Vandersteen 2ce...
Amplifier for Krell KRC 3 - B&W 803D
I agree with Audiojan about the Krell. I had the 2250 with a pair of 802 series 3. It was pretty flat from top to bottom. If you don't have to have a Krell, I have heard the 803d's many times with Musical Fidelity electronics and they seemed to wo...
Help me decide
I would choose the BAT. Build quality is as good as anything else out there, As far as sound quality goes, I can't imagine you not liking it. If I were you, I would also consider Ayre and Aesthetix. Both are extremely good products and are in the ...
