Nordost RedDawn vs. Audioquest King Cobra XLR's?? In my personal opinion the red dawns will have a slight edge in the soundstage factor but tend to be a bit on the bright (not harsh) side. The AQ King cobra's will be a warmer sounding cable. I still have the king cobra's but have since upgraded t...
New REL T7 / T9 vs. older REL Storm III? Another option would be the Rel 'B' series. They use class A/B amps too.
Your thoughts on these different tubes?.. My impression of output tubes. First I have say to with any of the tubes different manufacturers of the same tubes all sound different. An example a SED KT88 sounds different than a Gold Lion re-issue and EAT KT88 is even more different. Just comp...
Conrad Johnson LP70s vs. the rest I wish I could compare the different brands but I own the Octave V70SE. Great build quality with some great features. Easy biasing - soft start which helps extends tube life and a protection circuit that really works (Yes I've had a couple of tube...
Audio Research VT100 tube replacement I have to agree from what I've read regarding tube rolling that a set that are not within the manufacturers tolerances could be costly trouble. I thought this post partially explains ARC & replacement tubes especially the last couple of commen...
Upgrade suggestions for Parasound/Dynaudio system Have you considered adding a sub? When set up properly it will add to the sound stage and bring out the lowest octave the S1.4's can't reproduce. I have a Rel B3 with my C1's. Another thing to consider would be to replace the Parasound with a tube...
KT-120s in a c-j Premier 11A Glad they are working out. I'm tempted to try them someday. I was lucky to score a couple of quads of the original TS solid black and grey plates. Extremely musical (lost a little detail compared to current production 6550's) and I'll admit the bl...
anyone tried a pathos hybrid on a dynaudio c1/c2 The C1's are 4 ohm so you are really pushing them with 700w per side. As a C1 owner I've never heard the C1's with that much power. I drive mine with an Octave V70SE tube integrated w/black box (70w/ch) and am very happy with the sound. The only a...
cd's/SACDS to test highs? Have you considered test cd's like Granite Audio or Nordost? They do run through some frequency sweeps among other tests/burn in.
Complete newbie needing guidance/purchase advice My experience is that I bought an integrated amp (Bryston B100sst) and thought it would be my last amp. Later I found MY speaker (Dyn C1) and the Bryston although very good wasn't great for the Dyn C1 monitor. I have since upgraded the integrated ...
KT-120s in a c-j Premier 11A When I called c-j months ago,Try calling them again. From what I've read a few AR amps will not work with them without significant power supply modifications. But most do and are NOW approved. As far as CJ they may have tested more models than whe...
Best amp for Dynaudio C4 As an Octave V70SE and Dyn C1 owner I would say the V80 integrated with Super black box would work well but in my opinion not at real high volumes. Octave has the re290 which is designed around the KT120 tubes which would be better. Depending on y...
Speaker wire gauge Here is the simplest calculator I found. http://home.hiwaay.net/~rgs/awgcalculator.htmlNot many brain cells needed for this LOL
Mission 753 Floorstanders? Ahhh Missions. My first what I considered to be my first affordable audiophile speaker. Personally I think the original 770 was the start of affordable audiophile speaker. From there they had good and bad. I was ready to pull the trigger on a set ...
How long it take before your system/amps sound For me between 6 min and 1 hr. I have a tube integrated and it takes about 6 min for the tubes to get the bias up. After an hour they are fully warmed up. The difference between the 6 min mark and 1 hr is hardly noticeable. |
