Narrowed to 3: 802D3, Sopra 3, Reference 3 I agree with jimmydd. When you hear the right speaker you will know it. You know what you're accustomed to. It's happened to me only 3 times. Don't be in a hurry with that type of investment. The last time I wasn't even considering new speaker. Bu...
Tube vendor recommendations? Haven't dealt with tubes for a few years but when I did I met Jim McShane. He doesn't take calls nor did Brent Jessee. Both are #1 as far as service. I think the reason Jim doesn't take calls is when I met him we could have talked for hours about ...
Black backgrounds and such Another example that really shocked me was when Lars K from Ansuz came to my home with a prototype power cable. Up until then power cables mattered but not to what I heard next. Before putting in the cable he pushed the volume to where the speaker...
What is the most important component in your system. I have to say the speakers because to me they have the sound starts your journey toward the sound you like. But Liz has a great point not to be overlooked. Total system synergy from cables to source to pre/amp/integrated.
Black backgrounds and such I have to say I always had the same question. It's hard to describe. Once you hear it you'll know. The first time I heard a blacker background is when I added a black box to my Octave V70se integrated. It was like clearer vocals and instruments. T...
Am I hearing things? Actually you should swap out the 30A breaker for a 20A breaker and leave the outlet alone.
Please vote Everyone has the own taste and expectations when it comes to anything audio. Never heard the Mac's but my vote would go to the Sopra's. Not bright IMO compared to the older series. That said I would only listen to others folks opinion but make a p...
YG Acoustics, Raihdo? Soix - Mike B didn’t leave to scratch an itch. He was fired for taking too long to come up with new designs. Lars left because he believes in Mike B. Mike doesn’t rush into anything. It has to be just right or he starts over. I heard the XT5’s whi...
Subs to match with Raidho XT1’s When I had D1's I tried to integrate a Rel B3. While I got the lows I was looking for the B3 just bled too much into the mid's changing the magical mid range too much. I tried for over a year to get it right but it just didn't happen for me. The s...
Magico A3 vs. Focal Kanta 2 Focal IMO had a reputation for being bright but after hearing the Kanta and Sopra 2 I would not consider them bright at all. About 12 years I auditioned the SF Creamora Auditor M and thought that was going to be my next speaker. Not as laid back a...
Tung Sol NOS Black Plate 6550 – Temperature I always ever so slightly under biased my tubes. Andreas Hoffman from Octave always recommended that for longer tube life.
Tung Sol NOS Black Plate 6550 – Temperature I used TS 6550 black plates in my Octave V70se. They ran a bit hotter than the SED 6550 or KT88. Honestly not enough to really notice. Solid grey plates were the same. Is it possible they be biased a little high??
Best of the best Integrated amps in 2018 The Aavik U150 sounded great at Axpona this year. It wasn't until Sunday afternoon did they put the U300 in. I would say the U150 is about 90% of the U300. The Dac and Phono stages are options which really keep the price down.
Yanni or Laurel? My son and I just listened to that on my computer. I only heard Yanny and my son only heard Laurel. Weird
Yanni or Laurel? At and watching it on TV I could only hear Yanny. But at work with $25 computer speakers I only hear Laurel. |
