Classe DR-2 vs Classe DR-3 Sorry, I have not seen this thread in some time. To answer Nurxhunter: Forced air should not be used because it raises the bias current. The amplifier, by design, seeks to reach equalibrium between temperature and electrical operating point. If yo...
Classe DR-2 vs Classe DR-3 I have, essentially, both. The DR-2 was Classe's first product. The DR-2 uses Motorola power Darlington transistors on the outputs and no driver transistors. The DR-3 uses Motorola power transistors with drivers. The DR-2 has regular 5-way binding...
New Adcom GFA-555 se - Special Edition FWIW, I used to work for Adcom and I own or have owned one of every non-MOSFET amp made from the GFA-1 up to the GFA-565 monoblocks.I was curious about this 555se - I cant seem to find any real information on it. How is the balanced input implemem...
Need advice for russian reissue of tunsol 6550 The new Tungsols are made by New Sensor/Sovtek, not SED. It's a bit confusing, but Sevetlana was bought by New Sensor who now has the rights to the name. SED is what used to be Svetlana. The new Tungsols are supposed to be close recreations of the...
Which of These Budget SS Preamps? The Adcom without a doubt - this is essentially the $4000 Pass Labs Aleph P with a slightly different signal path.Good luck,-JamesW-
Are NHT speakers know for being inefficient? Yes, the NHTs (and many, many other) 2 ways are insensitive if you consider 86dB SPL insensitive. Do not confuse sensitivity with efficiency. The speakers are reasonably efficient.I doubt the problem is with your speakers or the load they present ...
Sealed vs Vented enclosures It's not so much that I prefer sealed enclosures, but that I prefer the 6dB octave rolloff a acoustic suspension design typically has. Not all bass-reflex designs have a 12dB rolloff though; I had Dalquists that were ported, but had the first orde...
Your first stereo system My first real system circa 1983-4: Dynaco ST-70, Dynakit pre (don't remember model), Dual turntable (don't remember model)with pickering cartridge, The Fisher AM-FM tuner (don't remember model, but was made around '67), Tandberg open reel deck (do...
Vandersteen 2ce sigs and Adcom gfa555 I would think the Vandersteens and Adcom would be a match made in heaven. The Adcom tends to be forward while the Vandy seems laid-back and soft. I think they would strengthen eachothers weaknesses while maintaining a wide soundstage and good dyna...
BEST HEAVY METAL BAND Metallica used to be good, at least their first three albums, but they are now in the 'sold out' and 'alienate the fans' categories with their MP3 lawsuit. I think the heaviest songs ever were made by the Melvins, Celtic Frost/Hellhammer, Venom, a...
Aleph 2 needs CD/pre. "P",Adcom,Wadia? Kill two birds with the Wadia....why get a preamp if you only have one source? But, if you do have to get a pre, then IMO you cant do better the either the Pass or the Adcom. Good luck!
Best musician in the world? Does this include dead people? I vote for miles davis & Jimi Hendrix - they both bring a tear to my eye with their genius....For someone still alive, then it's Yo-Yo Ma without doubt....OTOH, I can't really say that there's a singular best in ...
NHT 2.9 vs. Thiel 1.5 (or other?) I'll share some experiences as a NHT 2.9 owner: 1) 2.9s go very, very low - enough to clear your sinuses, enough to freak out small animals...way fun! 2) Placement is EXTREMELY critical with the 2.9s as well as the listener's distance from the spe...
Guilty pleasure music? Aw, c'mon, Black Flag never sucked - especially not with Mike Watt's wife Kira on bass. Circle Jerks...welll, I don't know. My guilty pleasure music is defined as the music that makes my wife either complain loudly, or make fun of me. I have to li...
leave amps on? I leave my amps on 24/7 unless there is an electrical storm, then I unplug 'em. Like Rsuminsby, I have had Adcoms for many years, and it takes about 45min for the sound to noticeably change, but it really takes a day or so before they fully stabil... |
