Looking for a new phono preamp +1 on the Parasound JC3+, I’ve been using one for almost a year and I really like it. The one negative is that it doesn’t really offer much gain control. Wasn’t really an issue until I got a high output MC cartridge. I’m still trying to decide if ...
Schiit amps, freya preamp I’m very happy with my Freya+. It does get hot running in tube mode, but it has sounded very good with every amp I’ve paired it t with.
Finally, ultrasonic cleaning for the masses! Certainly an inexpensive option but basically requires manually filling the unit every time you go through a clean/dry cycle. I realize this keeps the unit simple (and cheaper) but it seems this would be rather labor intensive when cleaning many r...
Schiit bifrost "clicking" between tracks When I first got mine I thought it would bother me, but after a few hours I didn’t really notice it.
How old are you? 53. A similar thread was started on the Roon forums a year or so back. Similar demographics (no surprise).
An audio rack that really does make a difference. Butcher Block Acoustics makes great racks, I just ordered my third rack from them. https://butcherblockacoustics.com/collections/rigidrack™-audio-furniture
Power strips- too many choices I use a ZeroSurge 8R15W-I on a couple of my rigs. I like having the isolation between the receptacles. Is it a vast improvement over a standard, high quality power strip? Probably not, but I like the way my system sounds so no complaints.
Schiit freya preamp - any owners out there? Leave it on? This was my question to them:Is there any benefit (or harm) to keeping the Freya + powered up all the time (obviously with tubes turned off when not in use)? I’ve heard various people offer opinions about this and I wanted to see if there was an o...
Schiit freya preamp - any owners out there? Leave it on? I own the Freya+ and asked Schiit this question. They said that even in passive the tubes were still getting power and you should turn it off if you are not using it.
DAC Choices - $5,000 to $7,000 Bifrost 2!!!!!!! You can't go wrong and will stand up to any DAC.The Bifrost 2 is pretty good but I think the Benchmark DAC3 had a bit more depth, though it wasn’t a huge difference.
What kind of music do you like to hear the most? Mostly jazz from the 50’s to early 60’s and classical, with a bit of classic rock thrown in for good measure. That said, my collection is rather eclectic and I do partake in other genres as the mood strikes.
Amplifier suggestions please The Parasound Halo A21+ was on Stereophile’s recommend list this year and street price falls into your range. I
Preamp recommendation The Schiit Freya+ is a great preamp for the money and gives you options for passive or active with tubes thrown in if you want them. I’ve got one on one of my systems and I love it. I’ve heard good things about the JC-2 as well.
Jolida Fusion or Vincent SA-32 / hybrid comparison I’ve got a Jolida Fusion 3502s that I use on my office system. I wasn’t overly impressed with the preamp on it, but it’s pretty good as a power amp running in bypass. I’m currently running KT-120s and it’s got a nice sound. It does seem more susce...
Solid State Phono Preamp recommendations $3k-$4k new range The Parasound JC3+ is an option. The output impedance is listed as under 100 ohms so should work with your preamp. |
