Worst Concerts You Have Attended ??
I have two. Frank Zappa at the Agora Ballroom in Columbus, OH, 1979 I think. The music was OK, but Frank played with his back to the audience for at least 80% of the show. They had the lights set up so he cast this big shadow on the wall and I gue...
Full circle and thinking about speakers
Everything mwinkc said about Magnepans is true and millercarbons rant against speakers below 92 db is pathetic. Yes, you need power to drive Magnepans, but when you have it, few speakers image or do dynamics as well. You'll also want a sub to en...
Suggest one obsure album we all should hear
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink FloydJust kidding, how about: Mind If We Make Love to You - Wondermints
The Weekend
I preferred the Up With People shows from the late 70s early 80s over the Weakend show. Seriously. And I didn't think those were jockstraps on the dancers heads, I thought they were diapers.
What is your favorite ''slow dance'' song of all time?
Some of these are just hilarious. Down By The River- Neil Young. Umm nothing romantic about that one as he repeatedly says "I shot my baby dead." On a more positive note, I did see Neil Young in Cincinnati with the Promise of the Real band with bo...
Help! Receiver or preamp? Im overwhelmed...
I'm a big fan of Yamaha AVRs. I've posted this before that Pioneer home electronics was bought by Onkyo and then Amazon and Best Buy discontinued sales of Onkyo products in 2020. Marantz and Denon were bought by Sound United in 2017. Usually, but ...
Why so many angry audiophiles?
Help me out here. Who was the comedian who said "If you don't have anything nice to say, say it really loud." Always liked that one.
A question to the Sound Engineers out there
raysmtb1Your reply reminded me of the movie That Thing You Do!, where they recorded the released track in a church.
Speaker sensitivity vs SQ
millercarbon is recommending to exclude all Magnepan speakers as options. In doing so, he is recommending to exclude the best imaging, soundstage, midrange, and treble producing speakers on the market in their price ranges. It's fine that he makes...
What if any, is the difference between a band or a group?
I think yogiboy had it the closest. It's a set theory thing. All bands are groups but not all groups are bands. All music groups make music but to be a band, you have to play instruments. If they don't play instruments, they are a vocal group. Boy...
Speaker upgrade
Magnepan 20.7s.
The cost of LP's and CD's - an observation
I tried playing vinyl in my car, but every speed bump I hit or hard braking I had to do caused the tonearm to jump around wildly. Never again. CDs only in the car, which makes them much more useful than vinyl.
What sends shivers down your spine when you play it on your system?
1812 Overture - London Symphony Orchestra - possibly the most emotional piece of music ever written.
One year down, two to go. What's the longest you have saved for one component?
millercarbon and douglas_schroeder are correct, you never save to buy something (especially a luxury item), you save whatever you can and invest it or at least put it into an interest bearing account to make more money. Anybody who is playing the ...
Upgrades that met/exceeded your expectations and those that felt short
If you like the Magnepan 1.7s, maybe you should try the Magnepan 20.1s or 20.7s (with a sub of course and a powerful amp). Instead of just exceeding your expectations, they just might exceed your wildest dreams.
