Oppo 105 and Hegel H160 DACs
Any data?
HD FILES which is best hi Bit Rates, or Hi Word lengths?
A bit of both is probably the best answer. How much that would be audible is a moot point, however. If you think it will be, make sure that the tracks are really HD. Also, don't waste money/disc space on HD versions of old analogue recordings.
Magico S5 vs KEF Blade 2 vs TAD Evo One vs YG Kipod II Sig w/pwr bass
+1 The same, by the way, applies to electronics. I would think it is all in the mind.
Oppo 105 and Hegel H160 DACs
Those are analogue, so you are using the Oppo's DAC. If you want to use the Hegel's DAC you have to use the Oppo's digital output into your Hegel's digital input. I would expect the sound to be very similar or identical. However, the hard bit is t...
What should my next upgrade be? Your best experience
I am not convinced about the Sonos' inferiority. You produce no data to substantiate that its output would be garbage. Also, there is as yet no solid evidence that the difference with the sound from the Marantz is due to a problem with the Sonos, ...
What was the first system you heard that made you think the high end made sense
Quad Esl 57, heard for the first time around 1970. I bought a Quad 33-303 amplifier the next year, after my high school exam, and a pair of Esl 57's a few year later again when I started graduate work and had the space to house them.

This is nonsense. Do you have any noise or jitter measuremtns to back up this claim? You can use the Oppo as an excellent pre amplifier. The DAC inside is first rate.
Need Recommendations on a CD Player
How about a good (UHD) Bluray player? Connect your TV to your stereo as well, and you can see the opera you are listening to, and will have great TV sound in the bargain.
Preamp
Do you need a pre amp? These days you often don't need one anymore.
Power Conditioner Advice please...
Of course your system sounds better at night: it is a lot quieter and a lower noise floor means more system resolution.
Kenwood KR-9600
Nice - power is king. Make sure you have it recapped, however. Power supply capacitors age, and if they start leaking you will have a very messy amplifier that may well blow up your speakers too. Avoid boutique capacitors - just good quality form ...
Looking for suggestions for a new (to me) pair of high efficiency monitors
The later improved version of the LS3/5a was 11 Ohm. The modern Harbeth P3ESR is 6 Ohm and easy to drive. It likes a bit of power, but cannot handle too much of it. The ones in my 18 sq m study are driven by a 2x100 watt Quad 405-2 and that is fin...
New Rel T5i. Anyone heard them?
I cannot answer the question, but I suppose the differences will be relatively minor. More generally, it is a good idea to have two small subwoofers rather than one big (unless you want HT bomb sounds), for a smoother response over wider area. Acc...
Looking for Better Jitter Reduction in a DAC
Well, maybe it is your DAC. A cheap test on that score would be to buy a Chromecast Audio and use its inbuilt DAC for analogue output. It will give you a convenient streaming device in the bargain. The inbuilt DAC is by no means harsh. It has two ...
Looking for suggestions for a new (to me) pair of high efficiency monitors
By all means use an LS3/5a type speaker in a small room like this. However, the modern Harbeth P3ESR is much better than the original LS3/5a (I have both).
