16 bit is good enough.....
This is a remarkably good CD.  Transparent, lifelike, excellent in every way.  Sound is very crisp and clean with my restored Quad 57s...highly recommended!
Upgrade from PS Audio Lambda?
What is the problem with the transport? If you are receiving the ERR message when you first place a disc in the transport this problem can be fixed relatively easily. PS Audio has directions for the fix if you e-mail them. The CDM9 transport is ex...
Spendor SP1/2E: Best Integrated Amp to Use?
Mistral SE integrated.
Non fatigueing speaker under 1500
Second the vote for Spendors...the 2/3s or possibly a pair of 1/2s used. My experience is that the more you listen, the better they sound. Heavy, solid stands improve the sound of either speaker and I found that biwiring is beneficial with the 2/3...
Integrated amp with mc-phono.
The YBA Integre DT sounds quite good with the MC module. The Mistral integrated can also be ordered with the MC boards installed.Good Luck!WDA
Great Spooky &/or Melancholic Soundtrack/Classical
A second vote for "Once Upon a Time in America". Not easy to find in either CD or LP but if you have a choice, go for the LP...I have both and the LP is significantly better sounding. Another soundtrack that I like for the mood is from "True Confe...
Rectilinear 3's: Is it worth upgrading tweeters???
I owned a pair of Rec 3s in the 70's. If my memory is correct the original midrange did not have the whizzer cone. When a room mate blew the mids in mine the replacement midrange DID have the whizzer and sounded distinctly inferior to the original...
Audible Ilusions Preamp
I sold an Audible 3A for the very problem you are concerned with...volume steps were too big at the low level positions. I too am interested in this question and an additional inquiry...does the Audible have problems with the stepped attenuators? ...
Bottom Rung Koetsu..
I use the Koetsu Black with a Rega 600 and Michell gyrodec...I am quite happy with the sound. Have also heard good things about the Shelters but have not listened to one in person.Good Luck!
Good MM cartridge - any ideas?
Clearaudio Aurum Beta S....the more I listened the better I liked it. Sold it only because I had to have a Koetsu.
Ideas for a complete analog set up 2500- 3500
Michell Gyro SE, Rega 600 arm, Clearaudio Aurum Beta S...should be under $3000 new. Detailed but relaxed sound which can be adjusted by different cartridge choices.Good Luck!
Quad 63 amp advice
The very best I have heard my Quad US Monitors sound was with the Unison Research Smart 845 monos...25 watts per channel single ended. However, my experience is that with the Quads 25 watts from one amp may work while 25 from another may not. I al...
Nuetrality be Damned...
Spendor 1/2s...neutral but warm sounding as well. Spendor 2/3s...a bit warmer and a touch less neutral. Both need heavy duty stands to sound their best. A good compromise between neutrality and warmth.Good Luck!
Quad ESL 63's worth repair?
I looked for ESL 63s for a number of years on the used market...my experience was that when one speaker had been repaired and the other not, or two speakers had been repaired at different times...the speakers sounded different from each other. I d...
tubes for audible illusions mod 3
When I owned an Audible 3 I liked the sound of the Gold Aero 7308s. When I had the 3A I thought the original 6922s sounded better.
