Power amp + CDP: is that enough?
Thanks! I don't think my vintage Sony CDP-770 has a digital volume control; the volume button actually turns when I press the remote. Great sounding CD player, BTW; that's why I stick to it.So, it's a matter of exprimenting with power amps. Will t...
The ideal auditorium? Blank canvas
Feng Shui principal is to have doors and windows visible from the sitting or sleeping position. Idea is that you should be able to see who is entering. Bjesien, yes, but that would mean that the sliding glass door and windows are on the narrow sid...

Thanks, Martykl. 4 subwoofers is definitely something I am keen to consider later. Also, I am in Christchurch / New Zealand; transport is not negligible. Here is a new version of my music room plan. This one is fullsized. The shelves at the back ar...
The ideal auditorium? Blank canvas
Ok, what do you think of this first plan? - The original Golden Trapagon appeared too big for me, so I have reduced the horizontal dimensions by 25%... but now, it appears too small, doesn't it? What do you think?
The ideal auditorium? Blank canvas
Mapman Most room furnishings that can help a room sound good is not marketed to audiophiles and sound engineers! That is definitely music to my bank account!Plans will be underway and I should able to post them here in 2-3 days.

I am thrilled with your replies. The Golden Trapagon seems like a good departure point! It will have to be slightly downsized. Now, I'll submit that nightmare to my builder!Martykl, you write I lined the walls with acoustically absorbtive panels u...
How close to the real thing?
How close are we to the real thing?Since I listen exclusively to classical, I find this subject fascinating. The truth is: we are very far. Why? - Because audio and acoustics are still treated as an art, not a science. I think that audio is now in ...
Bi-amping + speaker crossovers = redundant?
Thank you very much for your replies. Now I understand. The setup I had considered would create more problems than it would solve.
Bi-amping + speaker crossovers = redundant?
My speakers are two-way. My idea was to connect one integrated amplifier to the tweeters, and another one (more powerful) to the woofers. The article about bi-amping (thanks for the link!) does not seem to address such a possibility, hence my conf...
Symptoms of damaged drivers / crossovers?
Thanks. Good idea about the the DC resistance.
Speakers sound best facing wall????
- Have you had similar experiences with headphones; that is, do you find most of them harsh and bright?I will need to get a pair, as I never use them.- How do others find the sound of your system, now that you've reduced the treble to your liking?...
Speakers sound best facing wall????
PROBLEM SOLVED... but...Well, I solved the problem. It was really easy. I just had to connect a second integrated amplifier that only powers the tweeters. Then, reduce the tweeters' sound by 30-40%. Now, my speakers can face at me again and all so...
The future of my hearing
Ferenc Fricsay was one of the finest conductors of the 20th century. He would have been much more famous if he had not not died at the early age of 48. His hearing spectrum was extremely limited and uneven.Up to a certain, regular point of hear lo...
Speakers sound best facing wall????
Markphd wrote: *****Try putting the speakers forward facing with a cloth or some sort of semi-permeable film in front of the tweeter.***** I had tried that, and I had even placed pillows. The treble attenuation and general result is not as good as...
Speakers sound best facing wall????
Thanks for the input. I did try various positions in this room, and the ear-piercing treble is still there. The room is really average; there is nothing unusual about it. The odd shape should rather break any echo than create problems.I come to as...
