Sound quality vs. volume
Lhansaguy: Good points.  I’m trying out the Diablo tomorrow.  I’ll let you know what comes of it.  I think I have a little bit of a lot of things going on with improvements possible on multiple fronts.  To your point about speaker placement.  I di...
Sound quality vs. volume
Foam plugs are in. 100%. It did improve the overall sound quality. I didn’t realize how overpowered the room was with low-frequency energy. I pulled out the frequency analyzer and it appears I have a bump from about 125-350hz. I think I might try ...
Sound quality vs. volume
It would be a nice experiment to move the system off-axis but unfortunately the home theater and layout of the room prevent rearranging the system.  I have explored hanging large blankets and do believe, while not perfect, I can make improvements.
Sound quality vs. volume
Agree with the comments on loudness.  Very rarely do I push things 90+db.  There are those few "classics" that demand to be played loud but that's usually more of a party than critical listening.  We are having some electrical work done in the nex...
Sound quality vs. volume
Been away a few days - I pulled out my SPL meter and mushy stars right around 80db. (A-weighted) I know someone asked.  I took your advice and plugged the ports completely and the sound improved.  Less but much tighter/cleaning up the lower few oc...
Sound quality vs. volume
Trying to respond to a few of the comments: I’ll try experimenting with Rockwool panels.  Sounds like a fun way to spend a Saturday.  I will also try wiring in a power Amp to see if we have a power shortage/amp headroom issue. As for ports, they a...
Sound quality vs. volume
@glupson: definately not that loud. About the place on the knob where you start to feel the music but way before my ears start to bleed ;-)
Sound quality vs. volume
Excellent recommendations, thank you!I’ll start with room treatment.  I figured as much but wanted some validation.  WAF is a very real concern so I will have to see what can be done.  The egg-crate look is definitely in the no-fly zone.   If anyo...

(5-10k) Dynaudio Contour 60
peachtree amp vs. traditional amp
Warning: Another Peachtree endorsement.I picked up a Nova500 in December.  Plugged it into a pair of Dynaudio Contour 60s and a streaming box and it’s been a simple answer for great music .  Can you get better?  You bet.  Will you need to spend a ...
Integrated Amp ideas for Dynaudio Special 40's
I have Contour 60s (can’t speak to Special 40s) but assuming similar, I don’t think you can go wrong with Luxman, Naim or Hegel. I’ve heard all 3 and wouldn’t have any complaints.  After all of this, I decided on a simple setup with a Peachtree No...
Recommnedation for the BEST SOUNDING integrated amp up to $3500
Another vote for a Peachtree.  I have a Nova500 hooked up to Dynaudio Contour 60 and really like it. I get 90% of “best sounding” at a great value if you consider it comes with gobs of power, a very nice DAC, headphone amplifier and MC phono stage...
Peachtree Nova 300
I’ve had a Nova500 in my system (Dynaudio Contour 60, SoTM SMS-200 Ultra, Marantz SR7011 for movies) since December. The USB connection I find sounds best out of the SoTM but to be fair I haven’t critically compared each input. Im still tuning the...
Streamer upgrade recommendations
I picked up a SoTM SMS-200 a few months ago and with a quality linear power supply (I have one from Small Green Computer) it sounds seriously good - I’d recommend looking at one.  I compared it to the MicroRendu before going with SoTM.  It require...
Peachtree Audio 2.0
I’ve had a nova500 since mid December and (finally) really like it,  it took a long time to run-in but that was with new everything (speakers, source, etc,) so I don’t think it’s fair to say the Peachtree is all to blame.  Initially it sounded HOR...
