Kevin's Tannoy priced as a Single speaker?? I, for one, would like to have a second all-mono system with just one speaker...just sayin...
Looking for a tube Preamp new or used for under $2000... I agree with speakermaster. Tube preamps are often designed for tube power amps with input impedances of 100K or higher. Your Parasound amp has a a 33K input impedance (or 66K balanced).
Any Linn LP12 owners in So Cal get the Karousel bearing upgrade? I upgraded to the Karousel bearing and the Kore subchassis and highly recommend the combination. Unfortunately, I did both at the same time so can't comment on the relative merits of each, but the combination gave me a turntable that resolves much...
A stupid question for which there's no sensible answer. Single most important factor is your room. It's not just speaker placement or room treatments, some speakers will never work well in your room no matter where you put them or how many magic panels you put up. You have to find a speaker that works ...
Speakers good for close to wall placement Among current makers, look at Larsen (all models) and Klipsch (certain models). Vintage speakers that were designed to go against the wall include Sonab-Carlsson, Allison, and certain models by Snell, and Linn (the Kan, I believe). I have not hea...
Looking for a good system for my apartment. Any advise? The most important factor is your room/speaker interface. Get a pair of speakers that drive your room and fit in the space you have. Borrow or beg anything that might work. Try everything. Don't overlook used or vintage or unusual, like small Magg...
How do I pay? Don't do it.
smaller speakers for critical listening? Difficult room in what way? Do you have a back wall to work with? If so try the Larsen speakers from Sweden. They use the floor-to-wall interface to give you great bass and accurate stereo in almost any room. Several price points correlating to ro...
To venture back into vinyl or not,...that is the question. Depends entirely on how many vinyl records you own.
...bookshelf speakers that sound good at low volume... Tannoys or Fyne. Coax or dual-concentric speakers are more coherent at low volume and the higher sensitivity of such speakers also helps.
Tubed Preamp recommendations? You had better check the input impedance of your Meridian amp (I don't see it published anywhere) to make sure it at least 10x the output impedance of the preamp you are considering. Unless by "warm and silky" you like rolled off highs.
Honest question about cartridge vs. turntable performance. Your Ortofon Black would benefit from a better turntable/arm. The new Technics tables/arms, as suggested here, definitely sound good with the 2M series. An added bonus would with the Technics is that it would allow you to swap out another headshel...
purchasing US made speakers It's the size and shape of your room (and the placement in the room) that matters most. Don't buy a speaker you have not auditioned in your room. Try as many as you can before purchasing. I've had modestly priced speakers that outperformed much ex...
Should people with no turntable or reel to reel be considered audiophiles? Yes, but they should keep it to themselves. No one likes audiophiles...
Tube Preamp with Solid State Amp? Let's not forget about matching impedance here. Tube power amps typically have higher input impedance, like 100K or so, and will accept any sort of output from a preamp, whereas solid the A21 has only 33K, so you will need a tube preamp with a fai... |
