Shelf Material
Dekay, just to add that we have utilized MDF and found that anything less than 1" don't work so well. As you have two MDF sheets cut already, try mounting them with the off-center hole cut one on top of the solid sheet with a space between the two...
Replacing my tweeters a good idea?
You are obviously not happy with the speakers as they are now, so what have you got to lose by experimenting! Try and get as much information on the specifications of the existing tweeter (there must be some somewhere on the web) and then see if y...
Shelf Material
Regarding the use of MDF for shelf material, experiment with two MDF pieces cut to suitable shelf/support size, try one "plain" and get the other one either hand lacquered or two-part spray lacquered in a piano black finish or similar. Use some ty...
Shelf Material
If you can get two pieces of perspex made up similar to a double-glazed window unit with the air gap evacuated and replaced with an inert gas, this may give you the rigidity and damping/energy release properties you are looking for. If you use Cor...
Yet another Hum problem
Have a read of the following webpage as this may help you. http://www.jensen-transformers.com/an/an004.pdf, regards, Richard.
Shelf Material
Try and get two thin pieces (ie two pieces that combined make up the dimensions of one solid piece) of whatever material you select and bond them with a suitable adhesive/sealant (Dow Corning RTV or clear silicone), aligning the two pieces at 90 d...
Is this the sound of clipping?
Something worth considering - if the speakers have been sat unused for a long time (or are old) then the cone surround may have deteriorated causing the cones to "slump" down and the coil winding to come into contact with the magnet pole pieces. T...
Yet another Hum problem
Regarding your phono "hum" problem - try and isolate the source of the "hum". With volume turned down to minimum first try dis-connecting the interconnect from the turntable to the phono input. Then very carefully turn the volume up to see if the ...

Help for connecting turntable
What cartridge are you using? If you are using low output moving coil that could be a likely problem. If so, is the Aux2/phono input for moving magnet only? You would then need a step-up device. Have you double-checked all the connections as well?...
Help...killed Linn SARA Isobariks
These speakers are built by first inserting the KEF drive units in thru the back, the back is then fitted and sealed. The only way to gain access is to send the speakers back to Linn (via the dealer..??) or cut out the rear panel to gain access to...
Interconnect integrity question
We are a manufacturer and would I like to post this response which I hope is not seen as being too biased!! Just to say that your question is a very good one, coming from someone who is obviously honorable and (judging by your other posts) a genui...
Oh Pls Help
You have a ground feedback loop or are picking up hash from adjacent power cords, etc. First have a look and make sure you have hooked up OK, make sure all connections are good and tight and correct. Then (with power still off) disconnect the sour...
Can I connect speaker wire this way...?
Not a problem, just make sure if they are stranded that no strands are left loose where they are likely to "short out" the other terminal or touch ground. If they are solid core they make sure they are nice and snug into the binding post hole and ...
