Emotiva amplifiers review/experience?
Thanks Josh.....The reviews seem to indicate that XPA 1 can control the bass and keep it lean....the upper register are always a gamble . They should have less distortion than my 30 year old plus Yamaha M2 or my Tandberg 3012.....I am sure they ar...
Emotiva amplifiers review/experience?
Josh. Could there be such a thing as over kill? I live in apt and only rarely let thevolume go...That it might not work as well as the lower range of its power spectrum- even if the Maggies 1.7 has some minor low resolution problems ,compared to i...

Emotiva amplifiers review/experience?
Should even consider the Spa 1 mono blocks with 1000 watts at 4 Ohms for Maggie 1.7.
Magnepan 1.7
CHarles : I have the same reaction after three months. They do thrilling things. I play a lot of organ music (Chapuis Bach set and although they tilted to the upper mid range thge force of the bass is compelling. I have found the german Harmonia M...
Martin Logan CLS setup
Correction: It wasn't the Sp 9 I had but the arc Sp 6. and had a tough time match it with the Spectral. No way you need hundred of watts....however. I never used a a subwoofer, however.....
Martin Logan CLS setup
With the cls1 which were more demanding than than yours,I used a spectral amp 60 watts/vintage 1985 with a arc sp9 preamp. I had a large Mac and they nearly blew the speakers apart, that I previouslyhad used with OHM f's . If they are working leav...
Any Magnepan 1.6 owner who upgraded to 1.7?
Petergunn is not entirely right: It does have a bump (a treble/shout) in the upper midrange. Before modding (any of the previous speakers of the last 10 years)the 1.7's present the most dramatic represenation of music naked as they are opf all of ...
Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
A dealer return sold as new....The shipping box was really beat up . Did contact Magnepan. In Minn. They would not comment but told me to correct the the sties which were mis-alligned and could not have been shipped that way. It hurts but they are...
Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
Crom Thanks. That pink sheet was not inside the plastic bag or stapled to it that contained: plates screws fuses etc. Now I do not feel so delusional but now slightly paranoid as the alumum frames(sties) on the tweeter sides were raised above the ...
Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
Do not take for a reading teacher. But the Mag 1.7 manual does notspecifically recommend one tweeter position(in or out) or the other. It does recommend ' tweeter out' on the 1.6's. I have read the print vesion that accompanies the 1.7 and the on ...
Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
I have had these remarkable speakers a month now. They have quite mellowed out. The dynamics depth and speed astonish me with certain recordings. (and I am using 1980's equipment Crown) You do not have drive yourself crazy. They really are as good ...
Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s

Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
Crom: May I ask if you can get to the 'near bottom octaves' of an organ with that amp?
Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
Thanks Crom....Doing a little gig of my own with stands. Bought a dozen 4 pound 100% pure zinc ingots took them to a metal workshop, had them bore a3/4" inch wedge to fit the Mag stands. I call them Maggie's slippers. Cost less than a $100 to do. ...
