Any experiences with Eichmann Express Bullet Plugs
I use these connectors on the 47 Labs OTA cable (because the OTA connectors are easily broken and difficult to get a contact with). The connector is very easy to work with, just follow the directions very carefully on the Eichmann website, especia...
Vinyl's Noise Floor
There are two "noise floors." There is surface noise floor, the clicks and pops on a lp, and there is the noise floor that one can hear through to the "quietest of sounds", as Viridan points out. Referring to the latter, digital (redbook cds) has ...
Kodo or other Taiko suggestions on redbk cd?
Try Kodo "Tataku", this cd has a variety of drum tracks with other instruments (like shakuhachi). Recording quality varies from cut to cut, but overall very good. Best listened to on a full range system.
What qualifies a "low baller"
It depends. The true value of anything is how much somebody is willing to pay for it. Weiserb makes some valid points about what determines market value. "Lowballing" is relative to supply and demand, regardless of what the seller thinks is a fair...
Which very dynamic speakers would you recommend?
Based on your existing equiptment, try Kef Cresta 2 or 3s. They are cheap and clear sounding with good tonal balance. If you are planning to upgrade your electronics, buy the best speaker you can afford. I do not find the Paradigms dynamic at all....
Ah4000 CDP Directly connected to Stratos amp ?
The output on the Ah4000 can be attenuated internally; that way you can use less digital attenuation via the remote. The resistors are built into the circuit board, all you have to do is "jump" them into the circuit. I think you can select between...
What are the best amps for driving Totem Mani 2s?
The Manis sucked the life out of every amp I've used it with when I was demoing it. Bi-amping with two identical models will help. Having said that, the best amp that I have heard driving the Mani 2s is the Sim Audio W5. I think the amp is rated o...
Which Amp Would You Buy
I had Bryston 4B-st, but I did not like its misty, almost mechanical sound-especially the bass which lacks definition, albeit powerful (one note bass). I also found it to be quite two dimensional sounding lacking dynamics and speed in the midrange...
Placette pasive pre vs. BAT VK-50SE
I have a Placette and have heard the VK-50SE extensively. The Placette is almost completely neutral and the VK-50SE (runs hot and sucks a lot of electricity) while also neutral, adds its character: lean, detailed and dynamic to the music and is a ...
consensus on passive preamps?
Yes, the Audio Aero and Resolution Audio both use an "analogue" attenuator as opposed to a digital one. I think Wadia and Accuphase use a digital one. This, of course, is important because it subtracts information to attenuate the sound.
consensus on passive preamps?
Successful use of a passive preamp is system dependent. In a highly resolving system the passive should be more accurate to the source signal. The ideal "passive preamp" simply attenuates the source signal without capacitors or transistors (which ...
Sakura Systems OTA Cable Kit
Slawney, it was my post that recommended using the two different wire gauges (thin hot, thick return). However, not for ICs but only for speakers cables. In my system it produced better bass. My Japanese speaking friend is going back to Japan next...
How does length affect power cable sound quality?
I have tried various lengths of power cords and so far it appears that six feet to ten feet sounds best. A reviewer and an audio shop owner have told me that the better power cords are designed to dampen/filter "mechanical" resonances, amongst oth...
Sellers adding for PayPal use is plainly BS
Although "Danner" makes the most business sense, I would not like to buy from a seller/especially a dealer who wants to charge me for paypal fees. For most buyers it boils down to how desperate they are or how good the deal is. However, I still be...
Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits
Peter Gabriel "So", is not unlike "Brothers In Arms" because it is more mainstream than all of their previous albums. Both albums have a bit of satirical social commentary, great dynamics, along with some dark and moody tracks with guest appearanc...
