What's Absolute Best Upsampling CD Player $2K-$3K?
I've owned for quite some time one of the finest CDP's I've had a chance to hear. While rather unknown to the audience in the States, and not enjoying the lofty desirability status of some of better-known products, Gamut CD1 is a spectacular machi...
Amp for Shahinian Obelisks?
Mr. Shahinian himself insists on staying away from tubes and having an SS amp with reasonable power. Check with him and he'll be happy to make an in-person recommendation.
What time do you wear?
I've had my "Breitling 1884" for the last 10 years. It cost me a ton of money back then...My other expensive hobby used to be collecting Swiss-made automatic watches. This Breitling is the last one from those addictive years.
Good Headphones...What should I Get?...
Thanks for all the responses, gentlemen ( and ladies, if any). It seems that Musical Fidelity/Sennheiser 600/650 combo would be a plausible solution and not that extravagant price-wise either($700.00 or so). While it's probably not the state of th...
Good Headphones...What should I Get?...
Of course, the headphones would not replace my main rig. The idea is to use them as a reference in regards to the source material played. Short of a dedicated listening room, I think acoustically I've done all I could to my listening area - I've l...
How Long Did it Take to Burn In a new piece?
I agree with Boa2 on Soliloquys. I was tempted to sell them at least a dozen times in the last 6 months....They began to sound spectacular close to 800- hour mark. I do love the sound (even though it's totally different from my Dali Grands), but c...
Affordable subwoofer for music cont'd
Erikkelison,And again, all of the above are home-theater junk that will compromise the quality of bass. Watch the A'gon - sometimes there are some remarkable deals to be had(Rel etc.), as long as you don't mind them to be a few years old... Better...
Where do you find new music?
Amazon.com is a great source of discovering new music. As a bonus, one can listen to samples as well.
Reggae music fans help; re: Scary Reggae Music
Scary, slowed-down reggae is actually called dub, as someone noted. It's also electronically augmented with deeper bass. You want some dub? Try then Bill Laswell, Scarab, Rhythm and Sound(classic, even though they are German). A good place to star...
Good percussion
Try anything by Brian Metcalf IF you are into esoteric, trance-inducing stuff. Zakir Hussain is superb as well, but it's more of traditional indian music.
More personal effort in audiogon or our jobs?
Work by definition is the means to pursue things in life that bring you pleasure and fulfillment. Unless, of course, you're independently wealthy... Poor is the man whose work defines him.
Where R U?????
In the middle of nowhere in West Virginia. A perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of big and dead cities.
Audio equipment and cars...enthusiast thread...
I think the key here is the balance of power and practicality. While certainly the RWD and the stiffest chassis possible married to a gas-guzzler of an engine have an appeal in theory, and 0 to 60 digits impress the "little boys" inside of us, and...
Audio equipment and cars...enthusiast thread...
Triode,I didn't mean to insult your sensibilities. What is laughable, though, or rather, ironically sad, is grossly overspending money for the sake of prestige, be it a "fine german automobile" or a "giant killer" audio equipment. But then, to each ...
Audio equipment and cars...enthusiast thread...
Ah,... I am a typical Saab driver, 2000 9-3 Viggen, comes only with a stick, of course. It's a very practical car, yet it'll beat the pants off any of those fancy-pancy BMW'sSoundwise, it's an all-Kavent set-up(pre-, monos, cdp) and Soliloquy's 5....
