Hiss from speakers that increases as loudness control is decreased
@imhififan I have not.. Honestly, I didn’t even think that the cables would be a reason for the hiss. In any case, the preamp is with the technician. If he can’t reproduce it then I guess I will be sorting through my wires for some shielded ones.

Can’t the jacks be replaced with newer ones?

Thoughts on placing amps on stone/tile base
Thanks for all the feedback. Just ordered a 3inch platform from Butcher Block Acoustics. DIY is fun but a project like this can take forever especially if I fret as much about the finished product as I do for my listening environment...
Biwiring connections through Mcintosh Mc7100
Mattmiller, Thanks for chiming in. The challenge is that the wires have spades and the gap between posts is smaller than the width of the spades. So I can probably get away with stripping one pair of wires and terminating with banana plugs, howeve...
Mccormack DAC1 vs today’s dacs
gdnrbob, let me know when you are ready to sell it. I am going to check with SMC to see what can be done and whether it's worth the money between upgrading the dac vs upgrading the dna .5...
Suggestions for Amp & Preamp or Integrated for my speakers
I am using a Mccormak. DNA .5 with a Mcintosh C27 for my 2CE Sigs II and it sounds amazing. The preamp/ amp combo cost me 1500 bucks. i am sure you can find a good combination for that kind of money..
Vandersteen 2wq with Mccormack dna .5
It's been almost 4 weeks since I disconnected the 2Wq and have been listening to just the 2CE Sigs II and I am just amazed at the bass that these speakers have. When I bought them, I already had the subwoofer since I was using it with my 1Cs and I...
Vandersteen 2wq with Mccormack dna .5
Bob/hifiman5,I haven't got a chance to connect with Johnny R (time difference between the west coast and NJ is always a challenge) however, I disconnected the 2WQ and am just using the 2CE Sigs II and it sounds much much better. Not sure if it's m...
Vandersteen 2wq with Mccormack dna .5
Bob,Thanks for the tip. Will try to go a level higher and see if there is any difference. I am not using the M5-HP. I have three sets of fixed crossovers (100/75/50) that I bought from Vandersteen/ebay over time. That’s one of the reasons why it a...
Vandersteen 2wq with Mccormack dna .5
Hifiman5,My main speakers are 2Ce Sigs II. I have Kimber PBJ running between the amp/preamp(Mcintosh C27) and the sub is connected using the standard cable that came along with it (I believe it is Audioquest). Speakers are biwired using Schmitt au...
Seeking advice/tips on improving sound quality
Bigkidz, you hit it on the nail. Unfortunately I don't know what I am looking for myself outside of just exploring what can help improve the current sound. I predominantly listen to classic rock and roll (mostly Floyd, Led Zep, Who) and then jazz ...
Seeking advice/tips on improving sound quality
I guess based on everyone's feedback the lowest common denominator is a DAC. For some odd reason my Arcam RDac doesn't jive with the Macintosh pre amp and when I turn up the volume all the way to the max I get a sound level that is moderately acce...

Nycjlee, thanks for sharing your experience. I have heard about the Aurender but haven't seen or heard one. Will find out if there are any dealers here in the San Diego area who carry it.
Seeking advice/tips on improving sound quality
elevick, thanks for the tips. Stands are not filled. I will try it out. As far as cables are concerned, I have Kimber PBJs all the way through for interconnects and Schmitt Audio speaker/subwoofer cables. The Mccormack has a Shunyata Venom power c...
