Best preamp for CAT JL2 amplifier
PS, I just remembered that Audiogon member Jafox posted some related information on a previous thread. As I recall, he ended up using Aesthetix stages with the Signature version of JL-3s. You should be able to locate the posting in an archive search.
Best preamp for CAT JL2 amplifier
I'll be looking into this myself in the near future, starting with the current CAT preamps. I don't have any information to share at the moment, unfortunately.
Sovtek 6550 - Can they really be THIS bad???
Joe,I need to make a correction. I think the stock tubes for my CAT JL-2 are 6922--and I haven't changed them. You're still welcome to come over and have a listen of course. Bob
Advice on system and speaker placement-B&W
Jeff, this might sound ridiculous, but with my B&Ws, even increments of 1" can make a difference when you're talking about distance to the back wall. Have you tried moving them out 1 or 2 inches?
Sovtek 6550 - Can they really be THIS bad???
Joe, I might forget about this. Send me an email message in a week or two. If the amp isn't back I should at least have an ETA. Bob

Advice on system and speaker placement-B&W
If you can't have the speakers further out into the room or closer together, have you tried relocating them to the long wall? I had some older B&W M801s in that kind of arrangement and they imaged amazingly well despite everything being "wrong...
Best Male Singers of the 20th Century
John McCormack up to 1924. You have to be willing to listen to transcriptions of old acoustic recordings. These take some getting used to but can be remarkably rewarding.
Bi-Amping
Could your room dimensions be sucking the volume or impact out of your system? You have the classic no-no 1:2 proportion in width to length.I was discussing this with an architect in connection with my current listening room, where the room width ...
CAT vs. Aesthetix vs. Supratek - Preamp Choice
I'd be interested in the CAT/Aesthetix comparison, particularly if someone has heard them both in the same system. BTW, from talking to the CAT designer Ken Stevens, I'd guess that he might take objection to the idea that his preamp offers a "flav...
Move to NYC Apt -- Vandersteen 3A Speaker Woes
If you're concerned about sound transmission, watch out for loft apts in old industrial or commercial buildings that have been renovated, unless the building has full concrete construction. The floors/ceilings in such places are often exposed wood...
My Rhea's new partner arrives today
thanks for the initial feedback. I'm confused by your comment "its very quiet with the Rhea". My understanding was that the Rhea is a phonostage and Calypso a linestage and each can be used separately. Does the Rhea HAVE to be plugged into the Cal...
