The Beatles Revolver
@richardmathes The values of Beatles as artists in the ‘60s and the values of corporations in the 2020s are two different things. To say one is besmirching the Beatles as mere capitalists when one criticizes the motives of corporations in the 202...
The Beatles Revolver
I thought Giles’ “White Album” sounded great. Totally cool if someone owns an OG UK vinyl, or is willing to pay huge $ for it, but this would be another, totally sensible option to me. At the point technology is now, not sure what’s so heretical ...
Jimmy Page, It's time to call your lawyers?
Can’t tell if the OP is joking when he asks if the most famous plagiarists in the history of pop should “get their lawyer” because of Greta Van Fleet. Greta Van Fleet are embarrassing. Don’t get me wrong, I would highlight songs like “What Is and...
Record collecting versus hoarding
There’s really no difference between the two for most. Those folks who have a “nice, neat, perfect amount of records” (by the way, according to whom?) can enjoy their lives just like the rest of us. If there’s no harm, no foul.
The MoFi Mess and TAS rolling over for them
@bdp24 Gotcha. Did you like the One Step pressing of Tapestry?
The MoFi Mess and TAS rolling over for them
@bdp24 You ever give any of those mid-‘70s re-issues of Tapestry a go? IIRC, mine is the ‘75 US with the grey-on-white labels, not the ‘77 beige labels. Sounds better than the OG pressings I’d gone through multiple times.
Suggest one obsure album we all should hear
Can’t stop listening to Watertown by Sinatra (1970) the past few weeks.  It’s more akin to Lou Reed’s Berlin than what most think of in regards to Sinatra. Bob Gaudio (‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You’ - and many other Four Seasons hits -  ‘The Sun...
The MoFi Mess and TAS rolling over for them
Wow.  Anytime someone says to me, “you should be grateful for…” my hackles go up.  Terrible way to frame an argument.  The fact that it is an excuse for misrepresenting expensive products, exploiting the ignorance of customers…again, wow.
Beatles Get Back documentary
I always felt John’s opinion of the album (not very printable here) was spot on. Paul had every reason to be irate over what Phil did to his song, but Phil-or-no-Phil, it’s still their weakest album.  ”Across the Universe” is a career highlight ...
Reverb, what a joke
I’m really sorry to hear this. FWIW, my somewhat limited experience with them has been uniformly positive, but this sounds awful. I appreciate the testimony.  Duly noted. As previously mentioned here, some strongly worded emails to the highest ...
Beatles Get Back documentary
I really don’t think Jackson’s film glossed over the strife. Could this have been more unflinchingly depicted? Perhaps. It’s worth noting that Yoko, Ringo and Paul, and other family members of Beatles, deceased or not, are still alive.  We don’t...
Beatles Get Back documentary
John was very present and productive in these sessions. I thought he would be more indifferent and disengaged at this time. He’s banging out “Don’t Let Me Down” before Paul even arrives on Day 1.  He’s jumping on the organ or the piano to help de...
Beatles Get Back documentary
@fjship I feel that the relentlessly over-flogged message in the media that preceded the film’s release (aided and abetted by Paul and Ringo themselves) and the reinforcement of such by the media following the film’s release should be discarded an...
Beatles Get Back documentary
This is one of the most rewarding, amazing films I’ve ever seen. Comparing it to other films is difficult as it is unlike most films, even unlike most documentaries.  It is not a typical documentary. It’s closer to an archeological project than, ...
Why don't we tire of music?
A lot of folks repeatedly return to the same piece of art over the course of their lives. If I was smart, I’d re-read (or…uh…actually read…🙄) all them books on my shelf. I re-watched a few different TV series’ over the last year or so. The enti...
