Looking to get TT
About the part where you ask if you will have a good sounding TT for many years, if you are like most audiophiles, you will be upgrading in about six months to a year anyway. If you have not had a TT before, once you hear analog, you will be looki...
Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long
I'm real happy that you like the mod, Ron. Thanks for your great descriptions about the sonic improvements. I've even been getting some more interest from others in the HiFi mod now. Maybe it will actually "catch on" after all. I just like to impr...
Exposed tonearm cable source of hum??
Sure, it's possible that some hum could be induced there. However, the hum is coming from somewhere, in order for it to be induced on that cable. The wires themselves are not causing the hum, they are just picking it up. Unless there is a wiring p...
OL Silver vs SME 309
All I can say is I wouldn't trade mine for an SME V or a Graham. They both(SME and Graham) however are more easily adjustable. The OL has the Rega-style VTA collar, and that is all the adjustment I ever needed. No doubt that they are better lookin...
Will digital amps make analog amps obsolete?
Drat! And just when I was starting to enjoy my tube system. :^)Didn't they ask the same question when transistors first came out? "Will transistors make tube amps obsolete?" Here it is 40 years later, and tubes still rule. So, I guess I wouldn't h...
OL Silver vs SME 309
As an OL Silver owner myself, I may be accused of being biased, but there are several British and American reviews out there that claim the OL Silver is equal or better than the SME V flagship model. I would say that it is safe to conclude from th...
Is my VDH MC Magnetized Does this Create Noise
VDH states on their website that they do not recommend that any cartridge be subjected to de-magnetization.
VPI Aries - either or question, please comment
Dennis, a periphery clamp is a large ring-shaped weight that goes on the outer edge of the record, to hold the edges down during play. It helps to "iron out" some warps, and to better couple the record to the platter, as well as possibly damping o...
Which cart. with Clearaudio Unify & Teres 255?
Yes, the lower is always better, as long as you have the gain. The reason being the lower output model will have smaller, lighter weight coils, and therefore faster response. Load it at 100 ohms. Good luck.
Power cord? Why?
My question would be that after performing a test like described above, and having the possible result of no measurable difference, but they still sound different, what do you do then? Do you conclude that the testing methods are flawed, or that y...
Which cart. with Clearaudio Unify & Teres 255?
I think the best choice for that arm on the Teres 255 would be a ZYX R-100 Fuji. It is definitely in the same excellent sonic quality as the Shelter 901, but has a higher compliance that will work better with a Unipivot arm like the Clearaudio Uni...
Power cord? Why?
Sean, I'm currently using a large capacity lead acid automotive battery with 650 cold cranking amps, located about 24 inches from my amplifier. I have the terminals directly connected to the power input barrier strip on the amp, with 12ga OFC copp...
Power cord? Why?
Okay Bomarc. I'm on the same page now. Thanks for your point of view.

You can try to use a Shelter on it, and I understand that Harry has supposedly done something to the arm that he claims will make it handle a Shelter. If it were me, I'd use a different cartridge on that arm.The technical reasons are that unipivots...
Power cord? Why?
Bomarc, I have no problem with science explaining things. I like that. What I repeatedly hear, though, is that either there is no scientific reason for cables sounding different, or that we are all imagining it, or both. If there is some other sci...
