To balance or unbalance that is the question
I see nothing at all wrong with using the balanced inputs to your preamp, and using the single-ended outputs to your amp.As far as great sonic benefits to using balanced, it would surely relate to your individual pieces of equipment. I don't have ...

Yes Sean, I agree that the Denon 103 is a tough cartridge to get the right match for. But I believe it is worth it, because then you can get awesome sound for very little money in your cartridge. This allows more to be spent on the quality arm tha...
The Blues : A Primer
Very hilarious Kana813! Also you are only allowed to play "box pattern" riffs in E or G. Your guitar needs to have half the paint worn off, and must not have any of the string excess trimmed off. You must wedge your cigarette into the space under ...

Okay, here's where the rubber hits the road. The arm cannot be chosen properly, without due consideration as to what types of cartridges you plan to use. They work together as a package. In my humble opinion, the absolute best cartridge that can b...
To modify or not to mod..... that is the question.
Okay Bill, to answer your questions. The difference between a modded Rega RB600 and an OL Silver is quite large. Far, far more than the price difference. Whether you think it is worth the money is a personal decision, but to give you a guide, let'...

Totally agree with Sean. And I would go a little further to mention that the BPS is not the greatest value in cartridges out there. You could do alot better than that for less money than the BPS costs.
Audio tekne phono pre $171,000
Probably about 3 people have heard one, the designer, the manufacturer, and maybe a distributor. There is probably only one or two of these units. Units like this are built as an engineering "tour-de-force" and meant primarily as a "statement" of t...

Inna, I agree that the P25 can be beaten by a Nottingham, but it is not very nice to refer to anyone's TT as a "toy".Your statement about the TT being more important than the arm is very true. However, I diplomatically mentioned that if he made th...
Dust residue after carbon fiber brush cleaning
What I have done for years, is to allow the brush to remain in contact with the record, after a couple revolutions, and then draw the brush towards me, on an angle, in a sweeping motion, to sweep the dust off the edge of the record. It has always ...
Thinking about new cartridge
Good point, Marty. Thanks. I didn't think of that.
To modify or not to mod..... that is the question.
Bill, the short answer is yes. Basically you will get more from whatever cartridge you use, when you have an improved tonearm. But that does not mean that the cartridge is unimportant. A better cartridge will still sound better on an improved tone...

Yes, In the budget area, if you can spend a little more, it is better to get the weighted wood base of the 150. Noticeably extends the bass response, and improves detail and info retrieval. Definitely worth the money, if you can afford to do it.I ...

In that price range, I'd have to recommend just a little more saving, and spend around $2k. That would give you the ability to get a Teres 135, and a Rega RB250 and a Denon DL103R.These are the reasons. If you get the Teres 135, it will outperform ...
Clearaudio Reference Solution
You can use the Zerodust stylus cleaner. It is like a gel, and will not wick up into the cantilever. I think this is what ZYX recommends. The R-100 FS Fuji is a killer cartridge. Also, alot of other cartridges have hollow cantilevers too, they jus...
Tandberg tape decks
When I worked in the audio store in FL, we carried both Tandberg and Nak. The 3014 would bury the Dragon. A/B'd them for customers many times. Always came out the same.
