Flipping the LP over ... With the Linn, the felt mat is a slip device, and allows removal of the record while the platter is spinning without fear of damage. When I had my Linn, I didn't turn it off while flipping records either. But with my new TT, this is not a good thin...
RB300 Mod -OR- RB250 Mod, Which you feel is better Well, I guess I thought that the RB300 looked more tapered to me, but I guess I'm wrong. Never actually measured them.Sorry if I gave wrong info.
How dose your plinth sound? Edle, I'm coupling my plinth with cones to a very heavy base with similar ideas you used in your plinth. The mass coupling to the base will provide similar results.I'm glad you are DIYing with your TT. We need to see more of people like you, who a...
RB300 Mod -OR- RB250 Mod, Which you feel is better The 1/3 point for resonance control on Rega arms works for the 250 and I've heard that is will also be effective on the tapered tubes of the higher models too.The RB250 has adjustable bearings on both sides of the arm tube. My OL Silver takes this...
NAIM Alternatives-from people who have switched. I switched from Naim gear to a Berning ZOTL amplifier and found much better sound, none of the typical tube shortcomings, and it is auto-biasing, and cool running, with long tube life. It is just as simple to operate and maintain as any SS gear. N...
Flipping the LP over ... Shut it off. If there is any grit or anything under the record when you lift it, it may scratch or score the record. Especially on a TT without a mat. Also, I have a clamp, so I have to turn it off first, anyway.
Stylus Pressure Gauge AND Damage to Stylus? I'd say quit worrying about it and play some music.Find a VTF you like and go with it.
Anyone know anything about the Magic Diamond Blue? Maxgain, try an Ortofon X5-MC for a higher output MC with good sound at a low price. They can be found for about $115 brand new, if you look around. They are about $300 retail. They will have enough output. Other than that, the Dynavector 10x4 is ...
any personal experience with bybee filters? They work well on my system.
RB300 Mod -OR- RB250 Mod, Which you feel is better Dave, the RB300 has a tapered arm tube, which should be superior in resonance characteristics to the RB250, which has a straight tube. With the removal of the spring, and your other mods, you should be better than the RB250, or at least just as goo...
How dose your plinth sound? In the Teres, the base is shot-loaded differently than the platter. There are large holes drilled cross-wize and capped with the final sections of cocobolo after filling. The answer to your question about which vibrations are more important to cont...
Old & New Koetsu Rosewood mc. Which is better? The older Koetsu cartridges used Alnico magnets, which many people like alot. The newer ones use much more modern magnet systems, and many people like them alot too. It is an issue of personal taste there. The main reason why some people are rebuil...
How dose your plinth sound? Well Bill, this is right up my alley, because I had 2 of the 3 different plinths you mentioned, right on my very own TT.The acrylic base sounds nice, and looks very nice, but it is not even in the same ballpark with the wood/lead-shot base, sonica...
what tonearm for sota/shelter 501 ? Sean, the Shelter 501 weighs 8 grams, and the compliance is 9cu. Shelter cartridges are made in Japan, by Mr.Ozawa, who used to work for Fidelity Research cartridges, back in the golden days of analog. Even in those days, FR was considered an alte...
