About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone
PatrickWhile I only know you from your posts demonstrating a keen wit and definitely one that doesn't suffer fools well, I sure want you to know this from a fellow Irishman, being both a tough "nut" and a sentimentalist at heart, I feel I know you...
Speaker choices, $1000-2000 Smooth & Musical
Vandersteen 2ce sigs are smooth, musical, full range and have a very coherent presentation of all frequencies. These definitely should be on your list as mentioned above. Forgiving yet transparent and can be used with inexpensive electronics but w...
ultimate final word what we want out of our system
I think there are 2 generally different answers to this question. There is one camp that focuses on sound, that is the artifacts of the recording and another camp that wants to hear music as they might hear it live. To enjoy music without focusin...
Merlin VSM vs. Gallo Reference 2 or 3
Tom maybe you could describe the sound of your system, and we could extrapolate the differences from that to a certain extent. As you know I have the Berning and Syrah and VSM-M which I intend to upgrade the the MX. The sound is like reproduced mu...
The Magic of Brazilian Music
Frogman, you are right, how could we forget her? and of course Clara Nunes as well.
The Magic of Brazilian Music
Boa my wife is Brazilian, we go every few years to visit family and friends. Who's Hilary Duff? Maybe I need to get out more ;^)
The Magic of Brazilian Music
Where's the Samba guys? I really like many of the above performers but you need a little "heavy Samba" to add to the mix. Might I add for Samba and Pagode the following:Jorge Aragon (both)Zeco Pagodinho (Heavy Samba)Raca Negra - (Pagode)Beth Carva...
hospital grade or commercial grade receptacles ?
Irv, let me ask you this, does our knowledge of how electrical circuits work define how music sounds in a given system? Are you absolutely positively certain that our current knowledge of electricity would preclude any possibility that what some o...
hospital grade or commercial grade receptacles ?
"The only downside was that I noticed some softening of the micro-dynamics, but I only noticed it when using unbalanced interconnects."I don't know about you Irv but sometimes too much leading edge on the transients of the micro dynamics can sound...
Merlin/Digital Amplification ?
I once tried a Spectron with my VSM's. I found the presentation quite compressed compared to the Berning zh270 I own, 500 watts vs 70. The owner of the Spectron and another listener came to the same conclusion, it wasn't a very good match but then...
Merlin speaker/cable combinations?
I have the Audience AU24 speaker cables with tubes, can't say how they might work with ss and Merlins but they are excellent cables. The best ic's including Cardas GR and Luminous Synchestra Sigs which I have in the system currently are hands down...
Why no mention of "Stereovox" cables??
These are by far the best ic's I have tried in my system. I can't say enough good things, completely resolving of instruments and space while maintaining a relaxed presentation without any edge, maybe a signature of some sort? If so I can live wit...
Joule Electra VZN100 with Merlin VSM-MX.
Hi 1markrYes, I also have a fully modded Berning with all you mention and have tried numerous combinations of input/drivers. The Berning is improved greatly with these mods and the cryoed hybrid wire is probably the most significant in my estimati...
Joule Electra VZN100 with Merlin VSM-MX.
"certainly the ma1 and berning may even sound a little more extended in the bottom octave but imho not so in the treble."Boy I sure hear you there Bobby. The Joule/Merlin combo is in a very elite group of systems I've heard that get the critical h...
Quick Poll: For Berning / Merlin Owners
I prefer the low feedback setting. It is definitely a preference issue as there are tradeoffs but I feel there is generally a greater sense of presence and fullsomeness in the low setting which is more my cup of tea.
