MHDT Havana and Eastern Electric Minimax
Mapman you make a point that I would like to expand on concerning large scale works and the Havana. When I reference small scale I am referring to small scale acoustic music. The Havana which apparently got its name from the love that the designer...
MHDT Havana and Eastern Electric Minimax
Hawk28 I own the Havana and have owned the EE Minimax Plus. I would agree that the EE is more neutral a bit more detailed and has a very nice top end. Unfortunately it didn't meld with my system and over extended listening sessions it came across ...
Another audio dealer closes his shop
"I think more folks would get into the hobby were it marketed better. My two cents."I agree Ray. I consider myself an example of someone who was always interested in music but was totally unaware of anything but mainstream audio with the exception ...
That Audiophile Thing
Ditto to what 2chnlben says. With what I know I have a very clear picture of what I'd do with my mind's eye reference on what my goals are. This isn't to say I'm not satisfied with what I have, I am and it has evolved but I know what is missing an...
Danny Boy - Recommendations
For a sweet melancoly Irish rendition of this song I agree with Marty, the Great Irish Tenor John McCormack is a good one. I am not sure if he ever recorded "Danny Boy" but I have a later recording of "Oh Mary Dear"/Londonderry Air recorded in 193...
Which songs or musical standards have haunted you?
A few Haunted melodies that come to mindTheme from Swan Lake - TchaikovskyDance Macabre - Saen SaintsNight on Bald Mountain - MusskorskyMemorable, some haunting, standard Pop melodies most have been recorded countless times by different artists of...
$$$ vs music enjoyment
Mrmb, indeed an excellent post and thank you for sharing your personal experience. Also to me the major reason I enjoy attending audio meetings is hearing new music and the commaraderie of sharing musical and life experiences with fellow audiophil...
How Long Ago Since You Cried Listening To Music?
I can honestly say I can never recall listening to a stereo system and openly bawling so I feel quite relieved that my testosterone level is where it should be but then again I have shed a tear or two listening to live performances, two I can thin...
Merlin VSM-M and Bass
"Maybe there is a relation between Bam and bass hump"Pojuojuo, it is interesting that you hear a mid-bass hump or boost, must be a room node as Bobby notes. I have never had a mid-bass issue with the VSM-M which I have used for 12 years now, but i...
Who makes the highest quality tube amps?
In addition to some of the above mentioned, David Berning's designs since 1974, have a legendary status for both reliability and technical design and would have to be in the discussion. Example, I have owned the zh270 for 11 years and the outputs ...
Somers Point NJ
Thanks for the memories Shubertmaniac. Yes I remember those days, mostly through the late 60's if not the same places other than the Point Diner. My family spent a week in OC every year when I was a kid. Like Alpass my buddies and I spent time in ...
Speakers or.....
Agree with RW 100%, integrating the Maggies with the existing set-up plus placement issues would make that route a real challenge and could very well leave you wanting in the long run. I would as RW notes try to get the lastest 2Ce's in for a list...
Magico V3 with tubed amplification, will it work ?
Peterayer, 100% overated = hyperbole = meaningless = nothing constructive into the why "I don't like em." I will never get these type of mono phrase comments especially when directed at highly regarded products. A "why" or "what" reason or objecti...
David Wilson must be a little annoyed...
"Go listen to live musicians and use it as a template to recognize and appreciate natural sound. You`ll be happy and spend far less money." Charles1dadAmen I say to that again!
tube dac
To specifically answer your question, some tube DACs will have a more significant impact than others in my experience, they are not all the same. Using different tubes will further impact presentation.
