Crappy sounding "audiophile" LP's?
I don't understand why they can't simply list on the LP AAA or ADA or DDA, whatever, but like Alonski said, they know what we want, why won't they give it to us?! What is the point of a digitally remastered LP? I unknowingly wasted a lot of money,...
Carts on JMW 9 Signature
Thank you, I now have something to think about.
Carts on JMW 9 Signature
I have tried a Grado Sonata and Shelter 501 on my 9 sig, while 95% of the time they both sounded incredible, I could never get rid of IGD and mistracking at high amplitude/frequency peaks. I used a Mint and OCD'ed on alignment and tracking force t...
Carts on JMW 9 Signature
I have already had some bad luck, thank you for the input.
Carts on JMW 9 Signature
I sincerely appreciate your input, I simply want to find something that "works". Thank you.

Jmcgrogan-I have been considering the Blackbird, can you compare it to any other carts? It seems to have fallen out of favor (not many people talking about it lately), what do you think?

The Shelter and Lyra work better on the 10" arms, mainly because of the increased mass of the arm. I have considered the 20x, but I was looking for something a step above it. Thank you.
Crackling distortion
The problem is most likely the downforce gauge. It is measuring the force significantly above the level of the playing surface. I experimented with a digital gauge. If I put even a single record under the gauge, it was measuring almost 0.1 more th...
VPI Scoutmaster Tonearms
Upgrading to a 10" arm on a Scoutmaster would require drilling?
Any reviews of SP's Mellon Collie reissue?
The LPs are clean, FLAT and centered, but Zero, Tonight, tonight, XYU and other tracks that are "loud" tracks sound very compressed, messy and simply, bad. Those have been a huge downer for me. This is one of my favorite albums and I was pining fo...
Setting Azimuth
The azimuth ring is for fine adjustment, for coarse azimuth adjustment, you have to move the counter-weight side to side. This is made tremendously easier with a SS counter intuitive weight, as someone has already mentioned. Otherwise, you will al...
Phono Pre Amp Recommendation
I am using the GCPH with a Shelter 501 and it sounds great. I would not change it.
Record cleaning fluids
I use all MoFi cleaning fluids, they work great and are supposed to be super gentle on your vinyl.
How will you split $3000 between phono and cart ?
I have the GCPH and it is a fine phono stage. Very versatile, sounds great. I use it with a Scoutmaster and Shelter 501.
McCormack vs. BAT
You have described my situation very accurately. Two problems, my friends are all cheap bastards and no one I know has ANY decent equipment whatsoever. The second is that , having 4 children, am trying to get as much stuff "on the cheap" as possib...
