Help. What phono preamp to buy?
I have been using an EAR 834P for some time now and continue to be very impressed. I've owned much more expensive phono preamps in the past, but this one continues to be the most musical. It is very quiet for a tube phono stage and very dynamic. B...
Which preamp for Rowland 8Ti?
First off, you will not likely find a Synergy IIi for anywhere near $3000. And you're right, Synergy preamps don't come on the used market much, but if you're going for the model 8 you might buy something to hold you over until one comes along. In...
The plight of SACD....
Like many here, I've been in this hobby for close to 30 years. I have owned many fine turntables over the years including Linn, Sota, VPI and am now quite satisfied with a Well Tempered Reference. I pretty much agree with TWL, and at this level vi...
Well Tempered Labs owners do you use a platter mat
Maxgain...I've never thought it necessary on a WTT as the platters are very well designed. You might benefit with your platter, I don't know, but the black damped platter, I don't think so. If that were the case my guess is you'd see many more man...
Well Tempered Labs owners do you use a platter mat
Call Karen @ Transparent Audio and ask her. I've owned all versions of the Well Tempered table (except Record Player)and currently use the Reference. Each version has been a significant improvement over the others. Never tried a damping mat though...
What speakers for $5K Used?
I would also highly recommend the Aerial 10T. This is easily one of the best built speakers in the industry and a steal at used prices.
New Phono Pre-Amp
I'm going to second the recommendation for an EAR 834P. If you can afford to stretch your budget to around $600-650 you will be stepping into another league. I've been using one of these for some time now and you cannot beat it for for anywhere ne...
EAr 834p vs coph nia phono pre amp
You will love the 834P! One of the best phono stage values out there. You have to spend a lot of money to beat it. I also recommend the Grado cartridges.
Transport under 1500 new or used
I have used several transports over the years including Theta, Audio Research, Teac (same as used by Wadia), Pioneer Stable Platter, Top of the line Sony, and Accuphase. For the most part these were used either with Meridian DACs, Timbre (on loan)...
high output phono preamp for use with passive pre
Marakanetz...many audiophiles spend the majority of their time listening critically to their systems, rolling tubes, changing cables, and making other frequent changes to their gear. How can they become really involved in the music if they're neve...
high output phono preamp for use with passive pre
I would take Marakanetz's opinions with a very large grain of salt. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and that is afterall what these threads are for, but his comment "in general the phonostage in Mod 3A is terrible" serves only to trash wha...
Audio Research CD2 randomly skips
I had a CD1 that also skipped. Had to send to back to the factory twice before they fixed it. Fortunately it was under warranty. I sold it shortly after that. All in all I was not impressed with the build quality at all and would not buy another. ...
I need to get suggestions on a high gain phono pre
I've owned a lot of phono preamps over the years and have been using an EAR 834P for the last five years or so. If you like tube phono stages this is one you should give a try. Easily one of the best buys out there if not the most cosmetically exc...
XLR vs RCA
Like many other topics in the world of high-end audio this one is controversial. Balanced lines have been around for a very long time now in the pro-sound world due to the extraordinarily long cable runs often necessary for studio, stage and perfo...
