Mark Levinson No. 36 DAC & High Resolution Files Anything above 24/48 won't play... the DAC wont lock onto the signal, and you get nothing. I've been using my Levenson 360s feed from a Mac Mini, using one of the various "software players" out there to upsample to 24/96 (the dac's limit). Anythin...
difference between an active and a passive preamp? @audioflyer67+1 for the Luminous preamp. It's about $150 with the better caps and they'll use your systems measurements to get the right resistor. You can't beat it for the money.@dracule1What am I missing? My amp has a sensitivity of 775mV (VTL c...

Best combination of sweetness and dynamics? Forget efficiency and get the Dyn's. I've got Special 25's in a bedroom setting that is scary good at low volumes and can rock when i want to. It's driven by a VTL IT-85 (el34 tube based intergraded). Highly recommended. Tony
A good Preamp for ST70 I used an inexpensive passive (Luminous Audio Axiom) with a set of Will's rebuilt MKIII mono blocks. The sound was just incredible. Single source only, but it sounded f-ing great. I still have the pre in my closet as a backup.
Enclosed cabinet? How good are the fans ? Not sure what you are asking.... I run vintage tube amps with NOS Mullard tubes (i.e. $120 per tube x8) in an enclosed cabinet (some of the time) with auxiliary fans that kick in around 90 degrees without any problem.... The fans on my son's Xbox ...
What are best speakers for VTL 125 amps and 90dB ? I use the Duke by Marten Design from the Heritage line, with VTL Compact 100's. They are two way stand mounted monitors that use ceramic drivers. They been able to handle anything I've thrown at them but I must admit, I don't go much beyond 75-80 ...
$8k budget. Need advice. Why integrated and what are your sources? Based upon your listening and the power requirements of the AAD's I would recommend tube based mono blocks, like the VTL MB125's. (I have no affiliation with the pair being sold here.) Then depending on th...
How many tube watts for Vandersteen 2's? I have the IT-85 with upgraded caps in my bedroom driving a pair of Dynaudio Special 25's... You should be fine (at all volumes).
iPad as a music server? You can get around it with a powered hub. IPad to hub, hub to dac.
mcintosh MC 7270 or mc 7200 The 7270 is the better of the two IMHO, however it's old and tried... You can do a lot better with new gear for a fraction of the cost.

Vintage Levinson DACs I'm very happy with my 37/360s combo and see no reason to replace them anytime soon. Redbook CDs sound great, 24/96 sources are even better, and for simplicity I upsample flac (via software) to 24/96 from my Mac mini. Is there better out there sur...
Emotiva XDA-1 DAC? I was an early adaptor and ended up sending it back after 2 weeks The XDA has a very rich feature set for the money but I found it was lacking compared to the competition in that price range. I have a very revealing setup, and with that being said... |
